Well the chronology appears to be a little off in the headline (welcome to Fark).

I find his explanation plausible (how old was he at the time?). But let's face it, it didn't take this latest incident to pick up on a bad smell around his character. Really that can be said of a lot of guys of his profile.

It's possible to have moved on and change from such an incident.  But Jones' responses (and actions in the intervening decades) have the vibe of "I've long since learned to never say the quiet part out loud, ugh what else do you want from me".  Fark him.
