So the stolen car was traveling about 100mph straight into the side of a hill?

I'm totally the demographic for a motorcycle. I'm a traveler with decent understanding of mechanics. Love the open road and sun on my face.

I won't even consider it.

I also have a big ass F150 and don't feel safe in that either.

You're all nuts is what I'm saying. I don't trust you on the road.

The Brains: I don't trust you on the road.

Rightly so.

I guess the term I would use is offensive driving.

or is it defensive driving?

I get them mixed up. Bottom line, I don't trust other drivers.

Man that guy is going to be able to one-up everyone he knows for the rest of his life.  "Oh yeah?  Well I was hiat in the face WITH A TRUCK!"

I'm 52, and haven't taken my bike out in the last two years.

I've wanted to, mind you, but my daughter said something a couple Christmases ago then that's been setting in the back of my mind - don't remember exactly what, just a 'I worry when you're riding' sentiment and I don't want to be the reason someone is worrying.

/maybe it's just time to hang up my armour 😞

On my bike defensive driving is leaving cars driven by distracted children as far behind me as possible.  you are all fiddling with your phone/gps/radio/kids way too much and you all suck

FTFA:  That's when his video shows a man that had just been released from rehab, who stole the 2017 Lexus NX, barrel through the intersection and clip the pickup truck that went spinning into him.

Fastest relapse ever.  Well at least the driver is now dead so he'll never use again - so success?

Yeah. Sounds like rehab wasn't exactly successful, or, maybe it was. At least the person won't be able to actually kill anyone behind the wheel now, despite the good attempt.

And the same with "I know how to drive in the snow" -- it's not you, it's the thousand other people you go by on your commute that will mess up your snow trip.

Looks like, judging by the vid. Wonder if the driver was trying to commit suicide or something.

CSB Time.

My then-83-year-old grandfather decided on a whim he was sick of driving a trike and wanted to ride a real motorcycle again, and bought one from a friend.  He dumped it less than 1/4 mile down the road and ended up in the hospital and decided maybe it wasn't the best idea.

I have seen more catastrophic accidents in the last two years than in my entire life.  Axles ripped from frames, cars upside down and on goddamn fire no less than 5 times in the last 6 months alone.

it is bananas out there, watch your 6 and do not get into any dumb lotteries cuz big prizes are just waiting to be won!

I've already decided to sell my bike, this is just another example to point to when someone tells me not to. You don't have to do anything wrong to almost end up dead, at least in a car there's a slightly higher chance of not turning into ground hamburger.

I'd say that in general if you stop doing anything that causes family to worry then you probably aren't going to do anything fun and exciting. Having said that, even as a rider, I say this one clearly stuck in your craw and you probably won't be able to fully enjoy it.

First, holy shiat that was brutal, the truck flew out of nowhere and hit him in the face. Ouch

Also, annoying clip embedded in news story, I haven't actually watched news anchors in a long time and holy shiat they were covered in kicked on makeup that made them look like plastic human beings. Both the guy and the girl kind of looks like mannequins to me at their news desk.

Yuk.

And his attorney can investigate till the cows come home, but it's extremely unlikely the driver of the stolen SUV had any kind of insurance at all. So, rehab guy's non-existent insurance cannot be sued. That will leave the personal injury attorney with the suing the victims' insurance company or pursuing a questionable course like suing the rehab facility for letting the SUV driver escape or suing the owner of the SUV because it wasn't locked and was too easy for someone to steal or some nonsense. Or  , worse, sue the insurance company of the other victim - the driver of the pick up truck.

The important thing is that America resist ever implementing M4A because "we know socialism doesn't work."

I've been riding more or less continuously since I was 8 (35 years). I've never had a close call with another vehicle. I'm not saying it won't happen, because it likely will, but if you get proper training and drive defensively, those go a long way to protect yourself. Rider training is literally my father's job, so I also grew up with all safety factors beat into me.

Understanding that you'll lose every single fight with another vehicle is the most important thing to remember, IMO. But sometimes things happen, like this video. Which, btw, would have still seriously injured him had he been in a car or truck - that's thousands of pounds literally tossed his way. Ouch.

Another Final Destination event happened here a while back - loose lumber off a flatbed truck fell out and went through a guy's truck. If I recall correctly, it decapitated him which was probably a blessing.

That, or hard enduro is what I do now. You get the same thrill, but way less chance of serious injury than on the street. Amazing exercise, keeps you in shape. I'm 40 and I'm the young one in the group. Check out your local facebook groups.

There's not much you can do in that situation. I don't even think there was enough time to get in an expletive. One of the most sobering revelations about life itself is that you can be doing everything right and still end up getting slapped in the face by a pickup truck because of someone else's actions. Never take a minute or opportunity for granted and enjoy life to its fullest.

Interestingly more noticeable on the dude... to me, anyway.  I get the lady has some serious business eye shadow happening but that just looks like standard news ho stuff to me.  The guy looks like he may have just dipped his face in pancake batter.

That stuff always looks way worse in person than how it appears on camera... I'm laughing a little thinking about what those two looked like around the newsroom with all that on.

I think it's a bit more nuanced than that.

At 52, he's very likely raised a kid into adulthood, a kid who has enough empathy to worry. That's not nothing in general, and a decent good sign that they raised a human and not an animal.

But that's the point, they're both adults now, and both must realize that they cannot control one another, and the day *will* come where they must part ways permanently.

Having some selfishness isn't bad in this case; seriously, he did his job and raised a human adult, so why can't he enjoy himself. But a cost-benefit analysis must be done, honestly and candidly with the kid about the situation, and the cost of his personal joy must be made against the joy gained from being with his adult kid, and a compromise made. But candid is the operating word here. The other adult in the conversation should be capable of being happy for and worrying about them at the same time, and motorcycling is no different than downhill skiing or mountain climbing or hell even bicycling. They are activities we all do that bring us happiness and have significant risk. That never goes away, so it's important to deal with it first.

Darn. That poor dog.

Which leads to the question, "How the hell can that be cleaned off?"

And don't say to use Kerosene.

Maybe dump the dog into a bath of Dawn Dishwashing liquid?

I dunno.

On the first snow of the season back in 2004 or so on the Sunrise Highway on Long Island, everyone was going pretty slow, being safe. But then out of nowhere a guy in a pick up truck, comes barreling down the exit ramp and merges onto the slow moving highway. Realizes too late no one is going 60 MPH but him.

He slides into the middle lane does a 360 and ends up on the left lane inches from the concrete barrier.

All soundless. Not a single sound.

Scary stuff.
