Good. Theocracies are bad.

/ and before people start making pithy comments, Israel was not founded as a theocracy. Israel was founded by secular atheists who defined Judaism as an ethnicity. But the way Israel's incoming government is looking, it might actually start to become a theocracy

Pagans developed steam engines and analog computers at least a thousand years before christianity was even a glimmer of a thought. They also developed democracy, built roads, cities, trade routes...
Then Christianity destroyed the Roman empire and everyone got screwed over for 2000 years.

Google "Obama, Barack" and "Kennedy, John Fitzgerald" for historical examples of candidates being defamed by their opponents based on (perceived) religious beliefs. Didn't some of the Founders trade "he's a secret atheist!" barbs?

But instead, how about we check whether their religion is personal or evangelical? That's the real enchilada, not what they do while meditating (even if they call it "prayer"). Like, Pete Buttigieg is as Catholic as Mike Pence is, but I really don't worry that Pete's Catholicism* is going to wind up with me at an auto-da-fé.

// it's what you ought not to do, but do anyway
// I forget which commie said it, but "how many gods a man believes in neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg" (Jefferson, IIRC) - it's when The Faithful write laws to allow them (and only them) to break legs and pick pockets that we have a real damn problem, and that's not really restricted to religious nutters (see also "Trump, Donald")
* although he's technically Anglican now? Whatever, who farking cares what flavor of Jesus you put on your cornflakes...
