Is Grubauer broken?   Jones gives up 8 goals and doesn't get ganked?  I know the Kraken are kind of pissed at him for some reason (probably mediocre goaltending) but damn, dudes.  8 goals is a WHL score.

Jones is a sieve but he looks like the better option.

I think Jones is the better option long term, and probably right now, but not that game.   If you give up five in the first period, I'd expect a different goalie in the second.

Kind of impressive actually. They are really good this year.

I was trying to figure out if one team scored a safety and the other came back with a field goal.

Surprised Jones didn't throw a Roy-type fit and demand a trade.

I'll take Jones any day. I don't trust Grubauer and don't care that he was good in the past, it feels like they lose every game he plays in.

Jones knows he's hot garbage and can't demand shiat.

On the Kings side, G Cal Petersen -- who let in an embarrassing fluke goal that bounced straight up and behind him off the blocker in this game -- was waived today.

I thought he should have been on a minor league conditioning assignment at preseason as he looked slower than last year (which wasn't great either), got a minor injury and was getting outshined by Pheonix Copley, an NHL journeyman goalie who has been doing OK for the Reign.

But I don't think all the blame goes to the goalies. Jon Quick has had three games where his goaltending was good but the defense was so bad he said "fark it, I'm not throwing out my 36-year-old back on continuous defensemen mistakes right in front of me" in the first period.

LA's defense needs to give old man Alex Edler a rest for a week or two, sit Sean Walker and someone needs to slap the shiat out of Sean Durzi, as his PASS-BLIND PASS-INSTANT PASS THE HOT POTATO mentality and resulting turnovers (often right near his own net, too fast for most goalies to react upon) burns the Kings for as many goals as he generates. Probably more now. That OT power play for Seattle was his own fault, passing right to the bench during a change and tagging LA with a too much man penalty. He should have just waited and held on to the puck.

LA supposedly has decent minor league defensemen overcooking in Ontario, well, get on with their development if the "coach's trusted vets" are producing gems like this debacle.

Unsaid by the local hockey pundits is Drew Doughty. I've been saying for years he needs to stop playing 25 minutes per game and LA had to build others to carry their unit, not just rely on him. Now after a major injury and over the 30-year-old mark, he looks spent in 20 minutes TOI and making mistakes or just watching the puck like a bored cat in the third and OT.

I will say this: credit to both teams for not giving up offensively. That's about as positive as it gets.

/LA's season has been debacle game or playoff intense. I can only think of two games that were "easy nights." Not a way to go through 82 games and expect success.
//Todd McLellan needs to be fired for not playing the kids until forced to, I've been saying two years now. Gabe Vilardi, stuck in Ontario because DUSTIN BROWN is a holy farking figure to the organization who can barely skate in his final season. Arthur Kaliyev, second on the team in goals, looked good as a rookie last year, still gets 10 minutes or less and fourth line or power play second line time. Alex Edler, being run into the ground at 36. Sean Durzi only got ice time (and saved the season) because he was the only Kings defenseman last year with offensive skills when Doughty was out for the year, but is now being asked to play opposite side when the Kings have left defensemen in the minors.

Jones has had a much longer track record of being...not viable as a starting goaltender. I don't think Grubauer is great either but if he actually gets a run of games playing on a clearly better-than-last-year Kraken squad his numbers should be better than last season.

I'm more looking forward to when Driedger gets back from LTIR. His save % was only marginally better than Grubauer last year, but I actually trust him more than the other options (even though he apparently can't go two weeks without either catching Covid or seriously hurting himself).

I watched the Anaheim vs Seattle game on Sunday night thinking "welp, the Kraken actually sucked tonight but at least they were lucky to play the worst defensive team I have ever seen". Pretty much every goal they scored in that game was due to someone on the Ducks laughably blowing their assignment.

How two nights later the Kings managed to make the Ducks look like the Jacque Lemaire-era Devils in comparison is quite the accomplishment.
