(NHL)   For Wednesday night hockey Buffalo shuffles off to Detroit to play the Wings. The Leafs hope to induce tonic immobility in the Sharks. The supposedly rebuilt Sens take on the very much built Rags. Oilers/'Hawks is also happening. Pucks at 7pm ET   (nhl.com) divider line

Very cool.

First Leaf home game since Salming passed away, so expect a bit of a ceremony in his honour.

Also Samsonov is back, and starting tonight. Sharks call-up starter tonight, Aaron Dell, was technically once a Leaf although never actually played for them.

Oh great, that practically guarantees a shutout.

I actually knew that, Steve Dangle's "Frozen" pun (Aaron Dell/Arendelle) and singing lodged it in my brain.

There are a couple of things about tonight's game making Steve Dangle nervous:

A couple of items I'm noting:

1) In the category of "S**t we want out of the game;" a teen was seen kicking at an opponent's head during a high school club game in Denver over the weekend. The idiot has been at least cited for assault.

2) Last night in Tempe, the city council there gave their green light to the Coyotes' arena and surrounding property plans. The surprise that the vote was unanimous. But there will still be a public vote on it in mid-May (at the team's request) that the Coyotes have to gather just under 2,500 signatures for and the efforts for that started this morning.

Rogers covered the arena vote as a positive development and noted this was a good process and a good plan for things going forward even for other teams.

Go Leafs and Wings!  Marner needs a point to make it a 3 way split for Leafs point streaks.

Dude, call it a career and enjoy your life while you can.

Suit up for an all-star game if you have to get that one more game out of your system.

Yeah, it was a very positive development. The team's owner made a rare public speech during the council meeting where he said among other things "Am I selling the team to Tilman Fertitta and the Houston Rockets? No."

Bettman and Bill Daly were also there to provide support.

Informal polling have been showing public support for the plan, with really the only concerns being traffic around the area during event nights (and having gone to Arizona State, I can confirm that traffic is usually bad in the city).

Meanwhile, in LA.

Don't matter who is in net, if the team turns the puck over repeatedly next to the goalie, reaction time becomes moot. Prime Dominik Hasek's back would've blown up by now.

I'll be surprised if we see a game with more goals than that one this season. Complete and utter gong show.

And if you didn't hear, Kris Letang has suffered another stroke.

Hopefully, he recovers soon; but this might spell the end of his playing career.

LA has been involved in five games where at least one team had six goals. All but one of them (Pittsburgh) had a close score; Kings 1-3-1 in those contests.

Unless McLellan is fired and/or the defensemen are reshuffled, this is going to happen again.

Funny that LA, Winnipeg, Calgary, Minnesota and Seattle are considered defensive teams too. Pittsburgh to me wasn't much of a shock with a score like that.

/Guess the Kings went retro to the Gretzky-era defense.

End of one in Toronto. Still no scoring.
Sharks had about 3 or 4 clear breakaways during the period, all stopped by Samsonov (or shots were wide).
Leafs had several good looks too but they turned the puck over too often for my liking.

The Coyotes have been involved in 6 of them (5 came in their 1st 6 games) and won only 1 and none of them were close games (losing team scored either 2 or 3). It could be a lot worse.

Both Leafs D-men cased the puck carrier behind the net leaving the front of the net open.

Interesting situation in Detroit, Wings' Seider took a puck to the side or back of the knee and was writhing in pain to the side of the net. The ref didn't blow play dead until just after Buffalo (on a PP) got the puck into the net. They reviewed it and saw the whistle came after the goal was scored and the Sabres are now up 4-1

We went last year for his birthday. We got there early and they let us go down to watch warmups. I managed to get a clear photo of him watching Mika Zibanejad skating by.

Zibanejad was her favorite player. I keep the photo of her and him at MSG and the photo of him watching Zibanejad by her shelf.
