Nice for ovie although I kinda wish he'd hoisted lord Stanley atleast one more time.

if i'm not mistaken, this reduces the number of records gretzky still holds to 60.

which is mind-boggling.

And yet, your team is still managing a losing season (so far).

This saucy retort cannot go unaddressed.

While I'm enjoying the Ovechkin chase for the goal record (and FWIW, I think he'll get there), I'd trade that for a second Caps Stanley Cup in under a second.

Not happening with the salary cap situation and the injuries to Backstrom and Wilson though. Yeah, Wilson's an asshole player, but he's a talented asshole and the Caps definitely miss his game.

I was going to come in and say something snarking then I looked at the standings.  Hell even the RedWings are ahead of them.   There's a lot of hockey still to come though.  we've not even gotten out of pre-season games and trade deadlines.

As much as I hate that he got to hoist it once, I take solace in the fact that Sidney has raised it three times.

Something incredible about Ovie's career stats is that he's done it despite being Bettman'd out of almost a season and a half. During his career, he's lost the whole 04-05 season and ~30 games out of the 12-13 season due to labor stoppages, plus about 40 games due to the pandemic. Were it not for all that, he'd probably have a chance to pass Gretzky this season.

As I've said a few times now, Crosby is the better hockey player (which hurts to admit as a Caps fan), but Ovi might be the best pure scorer to ever lace up a pair of skates.

He also still hits like a truck.

It's been said by others, but it bears repeating: Gretzky's career assist total (1,963) is enough to top the all-time points tally (Gretzky had 2,857, 2nd is Jagr at 1,921). That is the most mind-boggling stat of them all

Yeah, in most sports, there's at least some doubt who the greatest to ever play is. In hockey, it's inarguably Gretzky.

It's too bad he was that unselfish. If he had turned 100 of those assists into goals (which he could have) Putin's ball washer wouldn't even be close. Which, as a Pens fan, I would be OK with.

And as is tradition, it happened against the Canucks.
