American innovation?

Because we're more bootstrapy?

Because people choose to live by working without choosing a line of work or employer that would provide them insurance? Because people don't choose to buy insurance unless forced because they are terrible at calculating risk (see auto insurance)?

Because we are a massively divided country that refuses to come together to save costs overall by putting an industry (maybe 2) under governmental control?

Or is it because there are myriad countries with no medical care available and you're dead anyway, so a go fund me doesn't help?

Or is it all of the above plus a bunch more?

Oooooh wait, no, it's because we know all of this already, we don't need to ask .

Love the guy and his comics.  His characters didn't talk like "comic book characters", they talk like real people.

One of his best lines was in a column in Comic Buyer's Guide.  John Byrne had savaged David's work, saying something like, "Every time I read one of his books, it makes me spew."

PD wrote in his column, "And lastly I would like to thank my biggest fan, John Byrne.  Who, full well knowing ahead of time, every month sticks his head in a toilet and violently vomits while clutching one of my comic books."

So you don't think there's a single country whereby if you lived there, you'd have very little to no access to healthcare?

I think you're forgetting about significant chunks of Africa, Asia, and parts of Eastern Europe.

I didn't say it was affordable to everyone here, but at least the healthcare exists, as opposed to certain death in a lot of the world if you are injured or sick past a certain degree of severity.

Grim news.  I think (most) of his Star Trek New Frontier series is the Star Trek I actually wanted to see on the big screen growing up (probably only ever get made by HBO at that time due to its "adult themes").

I hope he gets better.

Because in 1992 Democrats decided that the media-friendly solution to a moral panic created by the media was to ban rifles with pistol grips.  Starting in 1994 and continuing to the present day, Democratic control of the House and the Senate has been sporadic, with either a weak majority or ineffective minority.  Oh, and a couple of presidential elections as well with the resulting half-dozen or so SCOTUS picks that go along with it.

But it was totally worth it, rather than having Medicare for All.

I have a STEM degree and a 25 year uninterrupted work history but I've never once been offered health insurance by an employer.

My coworkers and I built a system for handling reporting for social aid organizations that operate in my state. Most of my customers are nonprofits. But fark people who didn't go build ad delivery and consumer preference tools using the same skill sets, right?

I'm a huge Peter David fan. I've gotten to talk to him a few times in person. I hope this goes gets him somewhere better. We don't need a comparison of individual suffering or blame here.

His runs on X-Men and Hulk and other Marvel titles basically created huge chunks of the MCU, if not the backbone of the entire thing for Sony, Universal, and Marvel/Disney. All the studios who have used the ideas he came up with should have stepped up and at least covered his medical bills as a big "Thank You" for the billions he made them. The fact that his family has to run a GoFundMe for him to stay alive is absolutely criminal.

Also the American health care system sucks and steers sick people towards suicide if they don't want to bankrupt their loved ones, with one last Hail Mary play for surviving being a GoFundMe to beg for help from strangers on the Internet. It's criminal too.

That's a shame.  I don't know all his work, but he had a great run on several Spider-Man titles way back when.  "The Death of Jean DeWolff" storyline stands out in particular.

He was great at maximizing the reciprocal relationship between narrative text and speaking bubble text.  His storylines always had nice flow to them.

His run on the Hulk was legendary for a few reasons, but in my mind it solidified the grey Hulk/Joe Fixit character as arguably my favorite character of all time.  I was just the right age when he took over the Hulk, and other than old cartoons and the TV show, his grey Hulk was pretty much what got me really into the character on another level.  I'm actually almost finished going back and buying all the various TPB collections that cover his run on the title to have easy access to print versions of his storylines.  I had the privilege of meeting him at the Salt Lake Comic Con (fark you SDCC, I'm still calling it that) a number of years ago and even had him autograph a few books and chatted for a bit and trying to keep the fanboying about my history with his run to a minimum.  Epic times, I sincerely hope he gets better since it sounds like he's had a really bad time of it lately........I definitely donated to his cause for all the countless memories with my favorite grey dude.
