I'll send one from New Zealand, but no guarantees it'll be there by Christmas. The cutoff date for North American post was 18 November. But since it's just a card maybe it'll sneak through in time.

Holy shirtballs.

In 1989 an appeal was made on behalf of this then 9-year-old English boy afflicted with a terminal brain tumor. Young Craig wanted to be in the Guinness Book of World Records for having received the most greeting cards. By 1990, 16 million cards had arrived, and his wish had come true. (According to the 1997 edition of that book, by May 1991 he had collected 33 million.)

CSB:

I got my friend a birthday card that had, "I really wanted to get you something you need for your birthday but they don't sell self esteem at the store" on it thinking it was one of the funniest cards I'd ever seen.

He opened it and his face dropped and he got really quiet for a while, god I still feel like an asshole just typing this out.

//terrible friend
///sorry, Zac!

Judging by the prices, the greeting card industry (is there even one, or is it just one megacorp because everyone's paying attention to the oligopolies in fuel, food, and media?) begs to differ...

I am gonna try this question again:

I need an idea. How do I buy myself a "surprise" Christmas gift?

There is no way to be a complete surprise. But I want a kinda of a surprise. The closest I can get.I did think about joining the Reddit Secret Santa thingie. But it is too late and I would have to give my real address or rent an address from one of the mailing services.
Macys is supposed to have shopper helpers. I could ask one to pick out 3 nice knit shirts and get them gift wrapped without me seeing them. So at least the actual shirts would be a surprise.
I could try one of the personal shopper services that work kinda like Uber (I think) and get them to buy the knit shirts.
Amazon has a surprise box from Nintendo. You don't know what in it. But I don't think I want anything that might be in it.Any good ideas?  (No - I ain't gonna send you money so you can get me something. And I don't want a Total Fark)

Maybe you could get a subscription box and cancel after a month. You'll know what category of stuff you're getting, but exactly what would be a mystery. That said, it's more value for money just to treat yourself. Anyway after a brief google, this site seems pretty comprehensive. https://www.cratejoy.com

Also, quite a few bookshops offer books in plain brown wrapping as a surprise.

Yeah, it's a racket, 5 bucks for a card.

Plenty of decent cards at the dollar store, though.

Subby here. Thanks again for your contributions. I just moved here in August from Texas, and this gentleman lives right down the street from me. I'm going to get him a card & hand-deliver it so he knows his neighbors. Also, to check on him to make sure he's okay. Winter is coming & if he needs a shovel I want to make sure he's covered.

I actually like sending Christmas cards, but very very few of my relatives or coworkers or friends still do.

So ... I can do this.

I know how much my 102 year-old grandmother loves getting cards in the mail, so... yeah. Adding subby's neighbor to my card list this year.

Don't think that I didn't consider the limerick potential upon moving here.

How many Rhode Island's are there in a Rhode Island?

Will try to remember when o send one out

These sorts of requests have a way of sticking around and becoming a nuisance for the people who made the original request.  Send the card if it makes you feel better but I don't suggest passing the request along to others.  Even now this poor fella is probably going to have more mail than he can deal with.

/looks at camera, wuh-woah

It's awful dusty in here today. Maybe dropping a card in the mail will help settle it. 👌

I have one with a picture of Mount Rainier that he might like, since he looks up the places that he gets cards from on a map.

I just started making holiday cards last night. I will send one. If I get super ambitious I'll send one when I'm away. I haven't made cards in years and I woke up this morning and saw this and thought it must be something I need to do.

Have one addressed and ready to go once I buy the right stamp.

If you know of any other legitimate "this person wants cards," keep it coming.
