As an Albertan this woman is peak embarrassment. I don't care anymore though. I have become single issue related to healthcare. Just found that toadwoman requires long term support. We will need a functioning medical system in the future and this moron is already shredding it.
Now this. Within a half an hour of this idiot setting precedent ignoring federal law BC shuts down all pipelines to tide water because they no longer need to listen to the federal law granting pipeline right of way. Alberta is currently pointing a gun at its foot and emptying the clip. It will take Ontario and Quebec about as long to do the same.
I am so happy that I am not in any way handcuffed and anchored to the O&G industry of this province
We are looking at moving to the island. BC is expensive but its better than whatever the UCP have planned for this province

The Canadian Constitution gives all of the undistributed powers to the Federal Government, the exact reverse of the Constitution of the Benghted States of Amurika. The Union grows stronger, with the power of taxation nomalized with the increasing demands of the citizeny.

If you are a Trumper go, go with my Godspeed, my Chillin' It is a far, far better thing than your reactionary instincts have done before. Apologies to our neighbours in the US of Mexico and Trumpland..

ASWUCA? I say she should get shut down just for proposing an act that doesn't have a cutesie, easy-to-remember acronym.

ASWUCA? Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a South American psychedelic drink. So in answer to the above question of "is she taking crazy pills?" No, it's a beverage.

This is one of those "teach the controversy"/wedge actions. It's a stepping stone to something else.

The ultimate goal is Wexit/Albertan independence.

I wonder how the First Nations communities are going to take this. The province just said "we don't care about any federal laws or treaties." It's going to get interesting, and not in a good way.

I would love nothing more than to see this completely backfire in her face, especially since she is trying to do the civic equivalent of right-to-work with this:  all the benefits of being part of the country without paying the political dues of honoring federal law.

It's a huge virtue signal to all the anti-fed Alberta patriots.  An election is coming in a few months, this legislation will almost certainly be blocked pending litigation on constitutional grounds until after the election.

This is the big promise Alberta's new premiere is making to her base in order to rile them up to vote.  The right has swung so hard to the margins that there's very little she can do to broaden her base of support, so she's trying the ultimate "turn out your base" strategy with this legislation as the carrot.

It's never gonna farking fly legally.

2022-11-30 8:15:45 AM
And the march towards fascism continues in the provinces.....why is it that these supposed "freedom" people want to rule with a iron fist and control everyone? Between her and the shiat Dougie Ford are doing I won't be surprised if they change the Conservative blue to brown shirts....

2022-11-30 8:33:39 AM
We need Texas to enact one of these laws, but in reverse. Instead of "nothing from Ottawa affects Alberta" it wll be "nothing from Texas affects the rest of the US."

2022-11-30 8:35:48 AM
Good luck with that.

2022-11-30 8:45:28 AM
I took all of 5 minutes in office for me to hate this woman. She criticized how the pandemic was handled like she could wave her hand and solve the provinces problems. She wanted to put laws in place that prevents company mandates for vaccines, but was talked out of it. Instead she plans to 'call companies up' and punish them individually if they maintain these mandates (take away grants, etc).
Feels like she's trying to make an oligarchy.

2022-11-30 8:47:04 AM
I always knew the Notwithstanding Clause would end of being warped in this manner -- it was originally designed to mollify Quebec's unique situation and demands within the federation. It was literally required to keep Quebec from voting "yes" on separation from Canada.

It was only a matter of time before premiers frustrated with process decided they would use it, too.

Its a bad bit of legislation, IMO.

No federal laws or treaties, I wonder how many countries accept Alberta passports?

Come to the island.  It isexpensive but only because Alberta is cheap.  I moved here from Alberta 3 years ago once Jason Kenney started doing real damage to the health care system, and though there have been tough some days (I mean there has been a whole pandemic during the interim) I have always been happy about my decision.

I'm moving out of Alberta, not because of this, but I can't say that this isn't icing on the cake of leaving this idiocracy.

It's strange. The landscape is beautiful. There are many world-class outdoor things to do. Jobs are plentiful and pay very well. Real estate is cheap.

There are so many reasons to live here. But I can't help but think the UCP is going to run it into the ground, only to blame the feds and then do more stupid things to spite the feds, like passing more legislation that runs the province into the ground.

I'd like to think the NDP could get elected again. I really do. But I worry they won't. There are too many stupid people in this province and the UCP are exactly the kind of party that would gerrymander ridings so they'll never lose an election again.

This is legitimate dictatorial behaviour, and yet absolute silence from the convoy clowns.

In a just world, proposing this hilariously unconstitutional legislation would result in shameful resignation of the entire caucus.  Even Kenney, for all his many, many, many, earth-shatteringly terrible and province-ruining faults, could see that this legislation is a death knell for the party.

The same way the Natives in Quebec dealt with it. They basically told the separatists that if they left Canada then they (the natives) would leave Quebec and take 2/3 of the territory with them.

The seps backed off pretty quick after that as they don't have anyway to actually force the Natives to do anything.

And legally the Feds have to protect the Natives (yeah a bit strange that one as they haven't bothered before).

I very much doubt that it's a death knell... if we're lucky the NDP might get in for a term, but I will be surprised if it happens and even more surprised if they aren't voted out again the next election. A lot of Albertans are like Republicans in the US. They will only vote conservative, or something even further to the right of that

I suppose I am just optimistic.  Perhaps I should have phrased it as "In a just world, Kenney would recognize this as a death knell for the party and not just a black mark on his career and legacy".

My staunchly conservative anti Trudeau Christian grandmother said about Danielle Smith "pardon my language but this woman is stupid."
Because although she is all those thing my grandmother also strongly believes in Science.

True story tho my mum worked hard to get Kenny ousted and Danielle put in. Her plan is to get Notely (NDP) reelected by have a such a nutso con in power that even the cons won't vote for her. I hope my mum's plan works out.

There was a article on fark about how the first Nations feel about this a couple weeks ago. Basically if AB does this thing, they're going to claim their treaty rights and most of Alberta will fall under Indigenous/federal rule
