Noticeably F.A.T.: Yes.

Agreed.

You can't really say "naturally bald" like - "blonde" " curly" though. Too bad, cause that was a good look for you.

I'll allow it.

Bald...by choice.

My daughter has only seen me with hair in pictures. I started shaving it before she was born. A LOT easier to deal with than when I had hair past my shoulders.

There is indeed a difference between being bald and making yourself bald.  Choice is important in all things

/count myself lucky so far that I haven't shown any tendency toward losing mine

I shave my head.   I am not bald.   I have a shaved head.   Why is this even a question?  Baldness is a medical condition with a genetic link.  A shaved head is a temporary choice.   I shave my head due to my job, and I look pretty good with it shaved, according to my wife.   I do not consider myself bald, because all I have to do is wait a couple of days, and my hair comes back.

I'd have to say no, technically it's a haircut, just a really really short one, and if they go without shaving for a week or so they have stubble, which is hair.

We live in a weird world, guys with full heads of hair shave to make themselves look bald, while balding men do ridiculous shiat like this.

Looks like we're pretty evenly divided between 1. Bald just means lack of hair.
vs
2. Bald means genetic/medical condition, people who shave their head are not bald.

Bald just means lack of hair. It doesn't matter if nature did it, you did it, or someone did it to you.

And since it may never be relevant to any other thread again, I'll post this

That's what the question in the headline alluded to, and there are people coming down on either side - some yes, some no.  For you, it's yes.

I'm betting the divide goes with people who are more math/logic minded: bald = lack of hair; and people who are not:  bald = people who cannot grow hair.

Maybe. I drew on my experiences reading books, magazines and an uncountable number of articles across the web and gleaning the definition from context, but that's sometimes unreliable. To verify myself I looked it up in a dictionary, then I looked it up in another dictionary, and then a third one. Then I looked up the phrase "shaved bald" on Google and got over a million results. Then I looked up the phrase "shaved bald" on Google Books and found a book from 1878 where it appeared. At this point I stopped looking because I was pretty sure that I was right.

I'm not sure how else you would try to figure out what a word means. Yes, I know that the definitions of words can change over time, and that you could technically redefine a word to mean whatever it is that you want it to mean, but that way lies chaos.

Until its hair grows back, yes. It's kind of like how I have a bunch of leafless trees in my yard right now.

Put another way: if I paint a cat purple, do I then have a purple cat?
