Wow they literally threw everything in there didn't they?

Even a kitchen bathroom sink.

lol that's the Princess Peach that's infuriating predictable parts of The Internet? That said they should have never let Pratt try to mimic Martinet's Mario. He's terrible at it. He's acceptable whenever he doesn't do that shiat

This seems to be what I expected it to be: Tons of fan-service Easter eggs for the adults to get nostalgic over while they watch it with their kids.

And that's fine.

Still a large departure from that last Mario movie...which was... not that.

Also, at this point Mario has seen enough weird iterations that I really don't care what take on the character they go with.

Nintendo should break their mold and do a proper adult oriented live action Mario movie. Make him an alcoholic plumber in his dirty apartment tripping on shrooms and the mushroom kingdom is an allegory for his addiction. His female parole officer, who has a peaches allergy, appears as a princess he must rescue, etc. The thing writes itself.

The voice acting is terrible to the point it's distracting.

You can practically hear the smug as Rogen is douching it up again while stealing work from actual voice talent. They all sound like terrible, because they're not acting they're just slumming it.

I preferred the hentai version.

I hope someone re-cuts that trailer into a horror film.

Apparently she should be saved by Mario because a "badass" princess is "stereotypical".

3D World put Peach back in action (hoverjump, fools!) and Odyssey finally put the Rescue The Princess formula to bed forever.  I'm 100% fine with the Princess never needing to be rescued again, game or movie.  Also, playable Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom or we riot.

This is not the face of a princess who needs rescuing.  This is the face of a princess who kidnaps Bowser.

I thought we were done with the slow piano versions of songs in trailers by now. The movie looks fine.

I still hate Pratt's voice for Mario, but pretty much the rest of it looks like it could entertain.

My wife and her team orchestrated the score of the movie (not the trailer though).  You have no idea how much farking Mario music I've heard in the last couple months as she was arranging all those parts.  I was able to see the orchestra record a few bits live when I picked her up at the studio.  Saw one or two clips too.  I was very pleasantly surprised.  I know it will all be mixed in with synths and stuff, but listening to a full-on orchestra quote all the 8-bit sounds and melodies is really pretty fun.

It worked fantastically in the later games. My gripe is just with the trailer. It seems every goddamned high profile film gets the slow piano rendition, usually it's the dramas though and the kids film get some top 40s schlock. I guess I should just be happy that it wasn't a children's choir singing "Do the Mario".

yeah for sure, there are trailer agencies (usually ad agencirs) that make all kinds of money doing trailers.  Back in the day, iirc, big studios would reuse music they owned on all kinds of other trailers.  Stuff like Braveheart or Avatar or whatever.  About 14 years ago, I spent two years freelancing in LA doing movie poster design sketches--the ad agencies were toxic af.  I know there's huge money there, but it was really really stressful.  Much happier in animation.

But back to the music--I think everyone will be really happy with it.  I've seen my wife work on more than 100 films, and this one was probably one of the most difficult and inpressive projects.  Nintendo was super-involved.  And, of course, the film studio orchestra has farking badass players who can sight-read anything you throw in front of them.  It's pretty rare for music to make me laugh and smile, but some of this stuff did.

Please thank her for her hard work, from us die hard Nintendo fans. My family and I are really looking forward to it.
