Legal experts say Trump's Truth Social post may be "evidence"

I wonder how long the book of damning things that legal experts have said about Trump's behavior would be at this point.

Can anybody explain to me what TFG's schtick about "every other president did this" is all about? Is he making it up out of thin air? Or is he comparing stealing highly confidential and sensitive material with something completely harmless like taking home a pile of White House cocktail napkins and a handful of Presidential Seal condoms from the bowl they keep in the lobby for visitors who want to fark in the bathrooms?

"When will you invade the other Presidents' homes in search of documents, which are voluminous, which they took with them, but not nearly so openly and transparently as I did?"

Yes. So farking transparent that not only did he not tell the government he took the documents and they had to discover what he'd taken, and that he continually lied to the government that he had the documents when they asked about them, and also hid them from the government when they first searched for them, but has also claimed that they were all planted.

He's as transparent as mile-thick wall of lead.

IDK.  can they actually prove the post were written by TFG?  could be some coffee boy he hardly knows and posted that as a joke.

But so far in the courts team TFG have not even made an attempt to point and prove at which documents are protected, were declassified, or supposedly "planted" by the FBI

I hope that lawyer gets paid.

If there's one thing I've learned over the last seven years, it's that the opinions of legal experts are meaningless.

The short version is the National Archives will put some papers from a President's time in office into their Presidential library.  It's never classified stuff, not in a President's private dwelling, and the papers remain property of the US government.  Trump says his theft of classified material is the same thing because he's a disingenuous prick and knows his followers are too stupid to care about the obvious differences.

Simple solution.

Change TFG's race to Negro.  All that special consideration for his quirky criminality would evaporate instantly.  It would be fitting for a racist to experience that.

He's mostly making it up.  He's falsely equating other Presidents having the National Archives go through everything weeding out top secret documents and such and then moving the remaining documents to a National Archive facility to await Presidential Library construction to him having his own people pack everything up and shove it into a storage room at Mar-a-lago without any security controls over what gets taken and stuff.

Ask him. Odds are that he'll confirm it, like when he gave those TV interviews about his real reason for firing Comey. He knows there won't be any consequences and he loves talking about himself.

Whoa, hold on a second. Are you telling me Donald Trump, the former President of the United States of America, openly admitted to committing a crime?  And there's an irrefutable record of it?  This is huge!  Has anyone told the FBI?  What are they going to do?  Nothing like this has ever happened before.  I need to turn on the news and see what's going on.  Holy sh*t, you guys.

The conflation is with how Presidential libraries  involve obtaining Presidential records.
After a President leaves office, and does the work required to set up a Presidential Library, records from their time in office are routinely requested and then transferred to their library. But the thing is, this involves a process that includes extensive paperwork. There are requests, reviews, and significant administrative oversight.

You might recall a story about a bowling alley and a Chinese restaurant.  GWB bought AND CONVERTED a former bowling alley to use to sort through his Presidential records. The site was upgraded to include  the necessary security infrastructure  to handle classified information.

TFG, as is typical for him, skips over the details, just like he did in office.

I'm pretty sure that the most expensive lawyer in Florida demanded that he be paid up front. I think it was $3M.

I want to be in the room when his defence lawyers explain that they're going to try to get him the lowest sentence possible.

Classification status is a Red Herring.

The records, regardless of their classification status, do not belong to Donald Trump.

They cannot belong to Donny because the documents are property of the US Government. He has no demonstrable interest in the documents.

Even if that was not the case...he intentionally retained the documents AFTER the US Government asked very nicely to have them back.

He claimed that every president took home millions of documents.

Millions of documents would take up more space than a small town library.

They took that out in their briefcase obviously.

Yes, and even after it was repeatedly explained to him that they were not his. Something he still hasn't gotten through his fat orange head.

"Evidence"?

Look, a lack of "evidence" isn't exactly the problem any more now is it. We have confessions on tape in front of the entire nation, a lack of evidence is the last thing that's holding up having this man drawn and quartered

This is why my ANGH line has always been him seated before a jury.  I don't see him ever getting convicted, for the reason you state, but that would satisfy me.

Trump's little mind apparently operates like this:
I did a thing.
Therefore, everyone else.who had this job also did that thing.

I am not persuaded that he'll go to trial in a criminal matter before he dies or at least is physically incapacitated.

I'd settle for him spending the rest of his life in court, rather than fark around on the golf course in retirement.
Forced to sit down and shut up while day after day after day countless people come and go to painstakingly spell out every last one of the crimes his committed and explain ad nauseum why they are bad and why he is a bad person for having done them.

Not being surrounded 24/7 by yes men shielding him from reality for a while would be a nice change of pace.

Easy defense for Trump. This can't be an admission, because he didn't write it. There's no way he used "voluminous", he would have gone with "big" or "tremendous".

2022-11-29 9:02:17 PM
It almost feels like the best possible defense his legal team could provide is to let him run his mouth and incriminate himself. Call it a plea. Bound to be a better outcome than actually trying to defend this crap at trial.
