Watched the Beatles documentary on Disney, and there was a lot of great behind the scenes moments showing their collective creative talent.

That said, John Lennon was a massive dick. Him abusing Harrison's creative musings and basically mocking the VERY same musicial compositions that Lennon himself was famous for was a giant dick move.

Plus showing up super late and basically being a disruptive ass was telling, when McCartney was just trying to get the thing produced. The only actual hardworking dude was Ringo who apparently was on time and ready to work all the time.

His death was tragic, but honestly, seems definitely rose colored glasses.

"She believed that she would only ever be seen as "the wife of an ex-Beatle"."

Yeah I think there is a reason for that? I've heard her sing. Maybe she should try to be an epic cook. As far as I am concerned she was some talentless groupie that got picked.

Well, she was wrong. She's seen as the reason the Beatles broke up.

The last thing John heard, in his final moments, was the blissful sound of silence she had prevented him from knowing for two decades.

Pretty much this. I don't despise her as much as others do, but why would anyone know her for any other reason? She had no talent or ability of her own.

/how she (and John) treated Julian is truly abysmal.

Yoko already had a career as a conceptual artist before she met John, and while fans have blamed her for years for "breaking up the Beatles,"  John had wanted to quit the band long before he and Yoko met. Yoko was just the catalyst for John to quit.

Much of the reason people hate her is because John inisisted on her joining the Plastic Ono Band and encouraging her "singing". To wit:

She lives off Lennon's estate. She also sold his part of the Beattles music to Sony back in '09.
Living the sweet life from someone else's work (even if he was a reprehensible piece of sh*t) she's no better.

She's 89, so I doubt she's particularly active anymore. But she has been doing art installations all along, plus making films. You may not like it, but she has been active.

so if you get murdered your significant other can't live off of the money you both have ? Or do you just hate Yoko Ono ?

John loved her, he married her, they had kids. He was brutally murdered right in front of her. But shes a terrible person because she lives off the money they shared together ?

I mean I guess you'll never buy life insurance since whoever you leave behind didnt earn that money

She's also produced music including producing music performed by bands that Sean was in as well as other projects. She's cited by the B-52's as an influence and has performed with them. She has organized concerts and festivals. She has continued to work for peace though she took a quieter more diplomatic tactic than the methods she and John once used. She works on anti-poverty campaigns; to raise money for HIV/AIDS research & victims; to raise money for Japanese Tsunami victims as well as other charity work. Regarding poverty, she has argued that poverty is violence since the early 1970's.

Also, people post video of her most experimental performances wherein she was deliberately pushing to the edge. Then, they criticize her as a singer and musician. Yoko Ono was trained in music in Japan prior to moving to London. She can do more conventional performances.

She still creates art, both in performance and installation work, but her art career is and always will be overshadowed by her status as the custodian of the Lennon estate. Unless you are a reader of Arts in America or a regular MOMA visitor, it's unlikely you would be aware of her work. How many Americans have heard of Ai Weiwei or Yayoi Kusama or Damien Hirst? Even artists best known for their stunts like Christo and Banksy are not familiar to the average American.

I could reverse that question - how many notable conceptual artists exist that the average person would actually know? It's not a field, as far as I can tell, burdened by widespread celebrity.
