Probably didn't want to start another Genos vs. Pat's war again.

The Philly Cheesteak is the only foodstuff I know of where the authentic version (thin flabby meat and cheeze whiz) is worse than the knockoff version you get at your local sports bar (bottom round, provolone, peppers, and onions).

Not mentioning cheesesteaks left more time for Collinsworth to ball wash Rodgers.

On the other hand, Maria Taylor is very...tall.

That's not authentic, it's what somehow has been marketed to people outside of Philly as authentic.  Authentic is provolone and fresh, thinly sliced beef.

This.  I hate 'Whiz.  When I make it at home, it's always with sauteed peppers and onions, and sandwiched with provolone.  I even sauce it with Sweet Baby Ray's original, which may or may not be blasphemy, but is objectively delicious.

People know the pain, subby.  I hear Beantown and I want to kill.

Tried a Philly cheesesteak from one of the two faves. I'd rather have a battery thrown at me.

1. F*ck Pat's ;)
2. You can "ask" for Whiz, doesn't mean it's authentic

a cheesesteak is fine, but eating a DiNic's roast pork with provolone and broccoli rabe is a religious experience

The cheesesteak is fine. Yet it feels pedestrian as it's beef, cheese, onions, and bread; plus it's pretty much everywhere in Philly and outside of Philly.

Italian roast pork with rabe and provolone is an excellent sandwich. The rabe adds an extra dimension to the sandwich.

that made me puke, and someone put the puke on a sandwich roll and sold it as a cheesesteak, and no one could tell the difference.

What kind of battery? One of those small watch batteries, AA cell, 9 volt, car battery?

You get your cheesesteaks from the wrong places!   Stay away from Pat's and Geno's.  Carmen's or Spataro's at Reading Terminal Market are pretty good.

The true sign of the apocalypse will be when you don't see a Primanti's sandwich during a Steelers game.
They're good but OMG FRIES ON A SANDWICH THAT'S JUST farkING MIND-BLOWING, MAN!

Look - I live right in the shadow of the beast, and I love Philly dearly.

BUT

They really aren't what you might call a connoisseur of fine meats...

It's good gut wadding, but best not to think to hard about the whole thing.

Maybe someday they'll be able to show a Seattle game without a clip of fish being thrown.

That's why the lines at Pat's and Geno's are either full of tourists or drunk 20 somethings because it's open at 3am.

No one from the Philly area would recommend either.

cerikpete: 2. You can "ask" for Whiz, doesn't mean it's authentic

Sure it is.  Putting the "authentic" label on anything is usually dumb, but the three accepted cheese options on cheesesteaks are Whiz, American, and Provolone.  American is the best in my opinion.  Provolone is for the roast pork.

poconojoe: DiNic's roast pork

And here is the winning answer.

They did a two minute bit on DiNic's during the game. Sandwich looked good.

Also good - scrapple sandwich.

As far as a sando with thinly sliced beef on it, I'd rather have a French dip from either Philippe The Original or Cole's.

/different folks have different preferences
//and the world is better for that bein' the case
