On Monday morning, Jackson tweeted at a beat reporter who covers the Ravens for ESPN.com and wrote the initial article on Jackson's since-deleted tweet.

"This is Defamation of my character," Jackson wrote, "because not once have I ever mentioned or disrespect anyone's Sexuality, sexual orientation, gender, Religion or Race. Your reaching..."

You LITERALLY put a up a homophobic tweet saying some guy "eats dicks" (is gay) because he hurt your ego:

"Eat a dick" wouldn't be a homophobic comment by the measure of most people any more than "eat shiat" would be a comment on skat play. Along those same lines, "I feel like a bag of dicks" isn't misandric.

Not trying to defend an otherwise dumbass comment.

I may be splitting already fine hairs here, but it seems to me that there's a difference between "eat a dick" and "that dude eats dick." the former, along with stuff like "eat shiat," is equivalent to "fark off." when the latter is used as an insult, it meant as though there's something wrong with a guy giving BJs, and that's homophobic.

Yeah, I think that's kinda where I'm going. If someone told me the entomology was homophobic I'd give them benefit of the doubt. But I would also say that usage has so departed from entomology in that case that someone using the phrase might sincerely not be homophobic

I would agree with that.

You're reading way too much into it.  If he said it to a gay man, I'd say that's homophobic.  When you say it to someone who's straight, it's a run of the mill insult.

If I call you gay in context as intended to be an insult (or say "that's so gay"), I would be making a homophobic slur simply by using it as that word intended as a pejorative term, regardless of your preferences.

On the other hand, calling someone a cocksucker is generally understood to be insulting, regardless of gender or sexual preference.  It's offensive, but probably a stretch to make it homophobic.

It all comes down to context and intent.  I think the tweet is just telling the guy to fark off.  Quite honestly, I think a guy dressed in spandex who sticks his hands between sweaty butt cheeks every Sunday for a few hours and then jumps in the shower with the team knows better than to start calling other guys gay.
