OOOHHHH! FPS STARCRAFT!!!!

Maybe I am older than I thought, but if that is pre-alpha then me thinks that game will be mighty pretty by release.

But it looks different enough that it might be unique

Not nearly enough bugs. Should be SWARMS of them. A hugely target-rich environment.

No power armor? No nukes? No flamers and rocket launchers? Bugs don't carry weapons?

No thanks.

Honestly, I'd almost rather see John Steakley's Armor made into a video game.   Wave after wave, mission after mission as The Engine slowly breaks down, and a perfect closing cutscene, "Did you find a body?  No?  Then he is still fighting."

farking hate that movie... LOVE the book.

"where is our AirSupport!"
yeah... the power armored troopers in the book didn't need to call in "air support" they provided their own.

Yeah, I want my Marauder suit and grenades that warn Skinnies when they will explode.  I got my fill of CoD Aliens with the Resistance trilogy.

The RTS game (Ascendancy) was amazingly fun and a pile of crap filled with bugs.

But it did have power armor.

Apparently there is a new one, but my PC days are far behind me.

Earth Defense Force 2017 was perfect for that Starship Troopers feel. Never tried any of the other EDF games though.

There was an old Half-life mod called Natural Selection.  Basically a "capture the flag" style FPS with a tech tree.  2 teams : Aliens vs Marines.  It was neat.

2022-11-29 9:49:14 PM
Late 90s PC Gamer had a game preview for a Starship Troopers game based on the book that never materialized, I think it ended up getting retooled into this RTS as all things did back in those days.  It had a big open map, robotic suits that could jump long distances, etc.  I suspect the tech at the time didn't match up to their ambitions. The final result probably wouldn't have been that different from Starsiege: Tribes or Mechwarrior 3.

Armor is a great book that can not be adapted to a movie. What makes the book great isn't the fights, it's the psychology of it. There is no way to take all the thoughts in Felix's head and put them on screen.  So of course once the CG is good enough (and it's close already) we'll get a hollow shell of an adaptation and audiences will love it.

Yeah, it's 400 pages about PTSD and survivor's guilt.  Pretty bleak when you think about it.

Absolutely this. Been playing through the latest one and it has the exact same vibes as the rest of the series. Impossibly cheesy, very good and has couch co-op which is a rarity these days.

If you haven't played Earth Defense Force, grab yourself a copy and have a blast.

/I'd tried a co-ed shower in the Army once. Turns out I had just wandered into the female barracks. That was an interesting counseling statement.
//I guess they just weren't ready.
///Even offered to help lather everyone up, but surprisingly few takers.
