It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face, except you also cut off your ears and also you're planning on dumping the whole face eventually as a tax write-off.

Hey, that sounds like a show on TLC.

So supposedly Legendary and Chris Nolan left Warners because the company was releasing movies on streaming the same time they were available in theaters?  From a consumer's point of view, that's a good thing. Even before COVID hit, I didn't enjoy going to the big chain theaters, and it was the common reasons (people using smartphones during the movie, talking, etc). At least at the few arthouses left in the Boston area, people seeing movies there went to see a movie, instead of being disruptive.

Seeing movies at home is worth it. Besides, the concession prices are too high.

So they take comicbooks about how fascism is bad and make them into movies about how fascism is good?

You think 300 the comic book didn't glorify fascism against "those people?"

The last movie I saw in theatres was Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  The last movie I saw before THAT in theatres was Sonic the Hedgehog.  Nothing that Hollywood has put out lately has really been worth my time to, get in the car, drive to a building at an appointed time, buy overpriced candy, buy a ticket, watch a movie without the ability to pause it to pee or use my cellphone.  Except Sonic the Hedgehog 2.  Best movie since Super Mario Bros. if we're being honest here.

Honestly never read 300, but after what the same director and company did to Watchmen, I felt it might be a safe guess.

No, 300 was a pretty accurate adaptation. It's Frank Miller, FFS.

/to be fair to Frank, it's pretty accurate to Herodotus's writings

Watch the director's cut. Snyder is shiat at telling original stories. He can adapt the hell out of material ostensibly storyboarded.

I find it really weird how many people on Fark can't go for two hours without peeing. My wife at age 54, after having given birth to four kids without having a C-section, can usually go 4-5 hours without peeing and she's always talking about how childbirth screwed up her ability to hold it. Yet "pausing a movie to go pee" is always one of the most common things people here say against going to a theater.

I'm guessing that Farkers are not the demographic that studios aim at these days.

Farkers drink too much beer to hold it for 2 hours.

I missed the Deadpool2 end credits because I couldn't hold it any more.  That was the last movie that will see in a theater.  My big screen is good enough with the ability to pause when I gotta pee

And apparently every movie, at any theater they go to is packed with people constantly talking or on their phones. I go to the theater pretty much at least once a week ($5 Tuesday) for the late show, and out of all those movies there is only one I can think that had a noisy crowd in the past year and that was Smile. Horror movie during October and a young crowd? Couldn't be too upset at them for having a good time.

I'll not make up excuses. I have no interest in going to a theatre due to costs, inconvenience, and I generally don't like being around people/crowds. I'd rather sit on my comfy couch where I can pet my dog and, if a movie sucks (looking at you here, Smile), I've not wasted money, gas, and time to see that one particular movie.

Caffeine is a diuretic, so it makes you pee.  Guess what's in Coca-Cola.  I'll give you three guesses, the first two don't count.

It wouldn't surprise me if the execs were pissed about that (because execs are greedy farks), but hanging on because COVID was a temporary problem...and then Zaslav started basically throwing darts at random projects then cancelling them, and Legendary decided to get the fark out of the line of fire.

...The last thing we went to see in the theaters was Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and the last thing before that was the thoroughly over-the-top Overlord.  It's going to really, really have to be something special to get us back into the theaters again, though I think I'd like to see Devotion on a big screen.

God DAMN there are some serious shut-ins in this thread terrified of movie theaters.

If there's a huge movie I'm interested in like Dune hitting theaters, you bet your ass I'm gonna go see it on a screen 70 feet wide and get blasted by a hundred decibels of low bass notes when that badass worm shows up. I'll wear a mask the whole time IDGAF.

But go ahead and argue that it's better to sit on your couch and watch the Sonic movies or whatever.

To be clear: I agree with the meat of your post too. I think the theater experience is something unique and fun that I can't get out of home viewing in really any way.

I didn't see Sonic in Theaters, but I never miss the AAA titles like Dune because of the experience.

The Fark age demo (nearly elderly) and the tendency so many in that age range have to get enormous sodas at the movies tends to make this an issue. I saw a middle-aged couple go into Glass Onion and each of them was holding what looked like a wastebasket of soda.
