Funds are based int things like pensions and similar. We had a bunch of junk they bought into recently. Now we have to have the remaining I'm vestments pay to let your school teachers and other public institutions. Now they have to make up for what would have been more abstract overpriced rents.

Private equity being used for real life monopoly.

I approve of this!

Rent seekers are natural cheapskates, so there's basically no version of this where widespread automation of property management doesn't become a playground for ransomware groups. The more dirt lords depend on automation to manage their digital fiefdoms, the harder it will suck when it's time to pay the piper.

But we should only allow robot tenants, too. Then the humans will eventually die off, and the rent will never be late.
And I don't see why we can't do the same for everything else. Robots should own and run all of the consumer manufacturing and production. And also be the only ones allowed to consume. I have every faith that a robot planet will go so much better than the stinking waste of flesh that now runs about the place. It can only improve this planet, and maybe some day, serve as a blueprint for any possible visiting aliens that might also have the misfortune to be organic.

If you read/see the play the word robot originates from,
the robots just evolve into humans and it all starts over.

Yes, I admit I am aware of Capek's Roboti. Although actually Czech, R.U.R. got lumped into Russian drama back in the days of my education, which, inauspicious as it may have been, was heavy on learning such things as Russian drama.

Stop trying to own a home. Instead, buy shares in property companies.
Keep your mobility so your employer has to treat you well and support good public policy, to keep you from moving someplace else with better conditions.

Buy a home and pay a mortgage for 25 years and you own a home and your mortgage payment goes to zero.

Rent and it'll start out costing just as much as a mortgage but after 25 years you own absolutely nothing and your rent has doubled.

But I'm sure in the latter case the difference will have been made up by all the money you managed to invest... In the very companies that are a big part of systematically making it impossible for normal people to buy a home and inflating rent.

"No one would give me a key, just a passcode. "

Scariest thing in the whole article.

Oh look, another system designed to push up Reds, make homes harder to buy, and shove more money into the hands of the investor class. Just what Society needs now, as these things ubiquitously take over all aspects of our life.

Pretty soon we will not be allowed to own anything, merely rent or temporarily have possession of things that are owned by large investment firms

I've been reliably informed by wealthy people that the companies are helping make markets more efficient which is good for society as measured in GDP.

Why do you hate the good of society? If spiraling rent is the price we pay for the upward march of GDP and shareholder returns then isn't it a small sacrifice we should all be willing to make?

That's a whole lot of trust to give an app in a time when every second call to my house is from someone trying to steal from me under the guise of buying said house.
