MEHtallica strikes again!

Someone slipped some amphetamines into their Metamucil.  They probably should've been a little more heavy-handed on the dosage.

I read someone else who said it sounded like they were making a tribute to Lemmy and Motorhead with this one. The band's never going to make "And Justice for All" or "Master of the Puppets" again. But at least it's a far cry from Reload.

That was... fine. It was fine.

Then they're deaf.  There's no Motorhead in there, just trying to poorly recapture old Metallica.  Better than "X", but paint-by-numbers.

They turned Trujillo way down or off. Which is a shame, he's a helluva bass player.
But so was Newsted and they did the same with him.

Hard Wired could really drag some times so it was nice to see this was only 3:30.   Heard more Megadeth in it than Metallica but it was alright....keeps moving and the solo was solid.  Clearly Lars took those double kick complaints to heart.

I'm just here for the old people biatching that Metallica has sucked since Mustaine got kicked out.

That just reminded me of "hey, remember when we made thrash metal? Let's try that again"

Thrash metal Metallica in the 80s were great.

But I enjoyed Hard Rock Metallica in the 90s too.

Death Magnetic was a pretty good album ... 14 years ago?!?!

"Metallica has sucked since..." They signed a record deal. Finished Kill 'Em All. Finished ...And Justice for All. Made a music video (the horror!). Cut their hair. Etc.

I generally enjoy Metallica; seen them live thrice, been entertained each time. There are any number of questionable decisions, of course. The song they did with Marianne Faithful makes me want to stab my ears, and the Lou Reed nonsense has to be an elaborate long-term prank that we just don't get yet.

Feel free to hate on them, but my Brother in Law and I just nerded out for 15 minutes about finally getting to see them (we're ostensibly adults, in our 40s with jobs). I got to see them almost 30 years ago with Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies and he's never caught them live despite being the biggest metal lifer I know.

Good times.

i thought the guitar solo was great

2022-11-28 8:45:31 PM
That... wasn't bad.  Probably the best thing I've heard from them since Reload.

And yes, I like 90's Metallica.  And 80's metal Metallica.  Have hated everything since then 'tho.

/S&M was good too.

2022-11-28 9:06:57 PM
This band were heroes to me in the 80's and even dug Load but they've totally lost me since. However, I like this song a LOT. It's heavy, catchy and Lar$ has DEFINITELY worked on his double kick technique with an instructor and a click.

2022-11-28 9:10:20 PM
So Metallica has finally entered the Christian metal scene.

my metallica listening is always lightning, puppets, justice, the garage days double album, and s&m.   So many of the older, longer songs are seriously great with a symphony.  It has to be one of the top live albums in my book, at least in terms of how many times i've listened to it and still enjoy it.  Kind of like maiden live after death, or zeppelin knebworth, it's never gotten old to me.

2022-11-28 9:21:39 PM
Also to tack onto my previous comment (and i say this as a huge megadeth fan, even newer material),im going to speculate mustaine would have killed to have had the juice at the time to do his music with a symphony.

Think about how epic good mourning/black friday would be with that backing.  Or set the world afire, or basically anything off of rust in peace.

2022-11-28 9:54:15 PM
Ehh, needs more oomph on the bass...and lyrically it was...ok, I guess.  It sounded like someone was just reading a rhyming dictionary.

What? Motorhead was the first thing I thought of when I head that song. And how are you defining 'old' Metallica because that doesn't sound anything like 'old' Metallica.

Reminded a bit of the latest RHCP releases. Aging 1980s acts that are technically awesome individual parts (beats, solos, riffs) but can't recapture the magic that made them click to begin with.
/yes I enjoy the Uplift Mofo Party Plan AND Kill'em All

little big man: That's a good song.

"METALLICA has confirmed the title and release date of its forthcoming 12th studio album: "72 Seasons" will be available April 14, 2023 via the band's own Blackened Recordings."

Also good news.

It sounds quite like something that would've fit on Death Magnetic or Hardwired, but also with a whole lot of Garage Inc sound.  I could hear this being one of their amazing covers of not so amazing early 80's NWOBHM stuff. But it's original!

It's not Spit Out The Bone, for sure, but it's definitely not St. Anger.

There's no need to make a new AJFA or MOP (lol @ "the" puppets).  Death Magnetic and Hardwired are pretty great, and IMO also compare favorably to all the other albums, excepting of course, St. Anger, which is still pretty much universally despised, except for people who discovered that as their first Metallica album.

Naturally, we'll be insisted upon that it's crap because St. Anger is crap, and the Napster thing, it's not a Puppets rehash; those things having nothing to do with the new release.

I thought it was pretty solid. Not exceptional, but a good midrange Metallica song. If that is the "bottom" end of the upcoming record, then real Metallica fans have something to look forward to.

Not bad. Pitch Hetfield's voice higher and the song would feel right at home with Kill em all. Pity about the low bass volume as the rest of the production is good.

Plenty of double-bass drum I gotta give it that.

/ Not terrible. Not great.

It's okay.  Serviceable song.

I listened to a lot of Metallica in the 90's, but I mostly moved on after that.  When they come on the car radio, I'll sing along, but by modern standards, I tend to find Thrash a little dull.

I am a lifelong fan of Metallica, discovering them back in high school when Kill 'em All came out.  Loved Ride, Master, and Justice (one of the greatest trios of albums ever released).  I am also a big fan of the Black album, was so-so on Load and Reload, but hated St. Anger with a vengeance.  Death Magnetic was OK, and Hardwired I like and listen to every so often.

With that said, if the rest of 72 Seasons is as good as this first release, well I'm pretty excited to hear it.  They finally sound like they aren't trying to be "metal" or different and just having fun like the first few albums.

That's just my opinion.

Unfortunately, if you really pick through Metallica's career, the only time the bass is really audible consistently, and mixed well, is in Black album through Reload.  They've had 3 absolutely phenomenal bass players in their career, and have absolutely screwed the sound mixing for all of them.

Fans:  "I wish Metallica would write an oldschool song like the good old days"

Metallica:  *releases single that sounds exactly like their very first song ever (Hit the Lights), wish a dash and even a lyrical shoutout to Diamond Head*

Fans:  "Meh."

I thought the song was outstanding and I'm swooning over the tour:  Two nights in each town with a rotating setlist so you never hear the same song twice.  In the round.  Discounts for kids under 16.  With Pantera and Wolfgang Van Halen!!!

Shut up and take my money!
Lars' voice in the distance:  "ok....!"

Absolutely this! I wish we could have a Cliff era record mixed like  Black/Load/Reload. Or like most  Megadeth albums. Mustaine understands that bass makes it heavy, and lets you play high riffs without losing the bottom end.

Started out with a cool Kill 'Em All vibe then Hetfield started singing.  I like Metallica more when he's growling instead of singing, sounds out of place with the music to me.

I liked Death Magnetic but not so much Hardwired.

I'll give it a shot when the whole album comes out.

My two cents brought to you by who gives a shiat

Yeah, I through it felt a bit thin, but couldn't quite place why at first... yeah, I think more bass would have filled it out better.
