I don't think this was on the top of the "good fiction" pile.  The good ones include a lot more characterization, with more details given about each side, allowing the reader to notice all the details specifically omitted for more creative characterization.  I think this one was more filler.

But everyone enjoys a good FA:FO story.  Extra details would just get in the way.  So maybe not just filler.  Perhaps an exercize for the author for efficient writing.
