The advice in the story is pretty sound, but after hosting a "Cheap A$$ Wine Party" each summer for 20 years we learned a few things.

Go really cheap and sweet for your wine selections. People seem to prefer the "Velveeta" of wine over more unusual varieties. And be sure to include a wine from Yellowtail. Folks will love it.

Amusingly a while back some of my friends who were $3/bottle Chardonnay drinkers came to my house and asked why I never served Chardonnay (my wife is pretty much an exclusive red wine drinker).   Fine, I'll do it next time.

I opened up three Chardonnays at $15, $30, and $60/bottle.   Didn't tell them which was which but they all immediately honed in on the $60 bottle.   It's not that they can't appreciate good wine, they just refuse to pay for it.

I don't think I really felt like an adult until I learned how to use a waiter's corkscrew. Felt better than renting a car or filing taxes, at least.
