David Segui was pretty darn good. Guys that aren't don't have 15-year MLB careers.

I do like the "but what about all the crimes i DIDN'T commit" argument, though. Don't think it'll work out, because it's really really stupid...but it's a new twist on things.

When this guy was a Seattle Mariner he would strike out and his face would turn red and he would get raging pissed and scream Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaark so loud you could hear it on tv, it was enough that the fans were like wtf.

/side note, his dad Diego Segui threw out the first pitch ever for the Mariners. And his dad played for the Seattle pilots MLB team before the Mariners existed.

I mean, he's partially right. MLB absolutely turned a blind eye for years until public perception changed, then went overboard in the other direction. Personally, I don't think steroids should be banned, MLB has farked up the game far worse trying to "fix" it than roids ever did.

As an Orioles fan, the thing that upset me the most about the Mitchell Report was that (thanks to the Segui connection) there were SOO many Orioles listed in it, and yet we were still SOOOOO awful. I mean, c'mon!  How can you juice that much and still suck so badly?!

Still waiting for the Boston to realize that Alex Cora isn't any good if he can't cheat either.

I think his point was that if he had committed different crimes he would have been treated with compassion and absolution rather than being demonized.

as Patrice o'neal said in one of his stand up routines, i don't want to turn on sports and see normally lookng guys like me.  i want steroids in sports. I want to see your eyeball bulging out of your muscular eye socket as you hit a 700 foot home run breaking every record there ever was, I want a football field full of guys straight out of looking like masters of the universe pulling hamstrings.

Steroids fall into the same category as CTE. Players will absolutely destroy themselves if allowed and either you think the league has a responsibility to limit the harm that will accumulate or not. If you let baseball players take steroids because it's their choice, would you allow a wide receiver or hockey goalie to not wear a helmet? MLB doesn't want the inevitable testicular cancer lawsuits filed by former players.

If it was allowed, then you'd assume they would take their advice from a physician, not Hanz and Franz at the gym.

You can't assume all players have the same access to a qualified physician. Minor league players make peanuts. Minimum salary for a AAA player is $14,700 a year. Hanz and Franz at the gym is all they can afford. For someone looking to make a big break, the pressure would be immense.

Great risk, great reward.
