Doubt Fox News and most local TV stations in the country will.

Trevor Noah: "Politicians should be earning your vote by telling you what they're going to do, not just by shiatting on other candidates. Just tell me what you'll do if you want me to vote. Don't tell me about the other person."

But by all means allow them to lie in the ads all they like without repurcusion...

Campaign law needs massive overhaul but of course that is never going to happen since it's controlled by the people that benefit from the fact that it is broken.

So you can't tell people not to vote for somebody who is:
A Nazi
Anti-choice
Election denier
Wants to take away Medicare
Wants to screw poor people and minorities to line his own pockets.

Sounds pretty stupid.

Yes, because republicans spent all of their time telling us how they'd fix things, and democrats just ran attack ads about how republicans were bad.

I also have some shiat in my pants, and I'm wondering how the democrats put that there.

I hope they have a loophole that allows Democratic ad makers to directly quote Republican candidates or provide relevant audio recordings of such without making any negative comments of their own.

I know what they are trying to do, but this isn't the way to get there. Instead how about requiring proof of any claims they make.

does not supported an attempted coup d'etat count as "earning your vote" when running against someone who did?

Ted Cruz used to be the most hated member of Congress, then Josh Hawley showed up.

Not trying to downplay the act of putting out attack ads, but this is nothing new in American Politics, in fact it's been around since American politics have been a thing.

So the idea that this is "new" isn't true in the slightest.  This is all rosy retrospection bias that people are applying.  Basically everything people remember about politics is rosy retrospection bias.

Newspapers literally ran attack ads written like articles against George farking Washington.  They went hard against him when he was running for second term too.

Oh and Thomas Jefferso was his political rival at the time.... His SoS.

What's one of the biggest things that he was known for outside of politics and his inventions?

Founding and running farking newspapers.

This is as old as America is.... Older even. Quite literally.  They started before we even signed the articles of confederation in 1777.

I'm not even fully against attack ads, but I think they should be regulated to be relevant and most importantly true.  If someone did something that people would find atrocious and would effect the public's opinion fitness for office, run that shiat.

But some random either made up or loosely based on reality attack ads are garbage and should be stopped.

The other problem is that despite what people "remember" the American Public thrives on them. They will vote for the person who runs them over the person who doesn't because negativity and drama sells in this country.

We never did politics differently, this is as we have always operated.  Policy is dry, it doesn't sell.  Attack ads is the political version of sex selling.  Being told burgers taste good as fark?  Meh.  Having a smoking hot model eating that same burger on the beach?  Millions in sales.

If it didn't work, people wouldn't do it.  Despite what the populace says about "going back to when things were better", we never were and they still fall for it every single time.

Just make them have to be truthful, not based on truth, but actually truthful.  Like if a politician is running ads about how much they love veterans but have frequently voted against bills that support or help veterans in some way, I am completely fine with running an attack and showing they're lying.

It's 30 seconds. It takes actual time to disprove lies than to spout bullshiat.

The only time I see a R ad cite sources, it's something in a newspaper, usually because a dirty dem said "I hate...voters". Which of course something is out of context 99 times out of 100.

When when a D does it, it links to news sources, like a study or a piece or website.

But you can't vomit a half hour worth of talking in 30 seconds. I'd be happier with zero ads, period. Just the normal "vote for me" posters. It's not like voters who don't use their brain care what the positions are anyway. They have Facebook/Faux Newz/Comedy Central for that.

I'm not able to watch the video of Trevor where I am right now.

but, considering the damage that continues to pile up in the US, "basic decency" is now a pretty high bar in US politics.

until there are consequences for those within Congress and the former WH staff who encouraged, if not actually conspired with the leaders of the coup attempt, then 25c and "basic decency" wont even get you a can of Coke anymore.

US politics has always been "below the belt", but actually assaulting the Capitol is over the line

Politicians should be earning your vote by making up bullshait about what they are planning to do and don't you dare think about bringing reality into play nor daring to compare and contrast said bullshait with everything they've ever done before.

Because if you elect Bernie you will get unicorns farting kittens.
And Trump "can fix it".  Pay no attention to his meirdas touch.  He promised to "fix it" and that's all that matters.

Yeah.  Politicians and their "positions".  Because that's what matters and not how they govern and what they will get done.
