Is it just me or do these images look like they've been faxxed from by Lunar Orbiter. Can't they get better camera on this thing?

I've been seeing closeups of the Moon since the 1960s. They used to enthrall me as a kid. I'm not a kid now nor easily enthralled anymore.

/I blame disappointment in willfully stupid Americans.

The cameras are for engineering purposes i.e. looking at the spacecraft. Some of them are GoPros. Apollo was using high quality Hasselblad cameras and were usually closer to the Moon.

Still, you are right. A good camera would have added diddly-squat to the cost of the mission.

The whole thing is impact craters.  It's incredible to think about how damned near every inch of that thing is a crater or a crater within a crater.  That's a lot of big booms.  Would be neat to imagine what some of the big ones looked like from earth.

The moon is bright... over Lebanon tonight, the Lebanese moon looks down, shim sham shacam, cattle explode, cow shrapnel drips off tree into mother's tear for little boy who goes on into battle and comes back dead, or worse, a *man*

I try to imagine what it would be like to watch the protoplanet slam into Earth to create the Moon.

Wasn't the surface rephotographed by another nation's mission several years ago?

No, you forget that weight adds the most cost to a launch. The weight difference between a gopro and a good camera is going to be another 20 to 30k bucks in fuel

It looks like mold. Did the green cheese go bad? We shouldn't have waited so long to check on it again.
