The earliest Scooby Doo shows were made in 1970, so I'm surprised they're still making more.

Is it still making money?  Then it's still produced. Not a hard concept.

It's kinda gross to me that the IP rights holders keep making a carefree kids cartoon for all ages into a more and more adult-themed show with every character becoming overtly sexualized in some fashion.  Can't we leave some kids shows for kids?

Alright,

Not to sound pervy, but at the risk of sounding pervy or skirting around pervy.

I miss the days when only the freelance perverts would do the Rule 34 stuff, and not
the creators.

Linda Cardellini kept her Velma costume from the Scooby-Doo movies.

Which makes the real question... how many times has that been worn into the bedroom for Steve Rodriguez?  Because if my wife had played Velma and brought the costume home, that number would be greater than 0.

/Though I'd stop short of having her say 'Jinkies!' during climax.  That's just weird.

No, that would be epic

However, costumes are not necessarily made to the highest quality, so it might not survive even being worn again

This Velma show sounds a ton like "Dog Saw God," the send-up of Peanuts that made a buzz some 20 years ago. Everyone has different names for legal purposes, but it's more angsty, melodramatic, and there's no lead dog.

And of course everyone's gay and/or has a 3-way with others.

How is having a gay character make it not for the kids? That's like complaining that a major character in "Strange World" is a gay teen.

Also, everyone in the Mystery Machine is clearly boning everyone else. Except, I hope, the dog.

/Since Velma was based on Shelia Kuhn, a gay activist and actress, who played Zelda on the The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis (the source of the main characters), Velma being queer has been there from the beginning.

I think the hypersexualized cosplays miss the point.  Velma's "librarian hot".  It should take a minute to sink in that the nerdy girl is attractive.  If she's in a cooter-barring skirt and had a pair of breasts that could have prevented the Titanic from sinking, that is no longer "librarian hot".

I'm against lesbian Velma because I'm a straight guy who wants to sexually objectify the character.  Given that there are multiple incarnations of Velma that have gone after guys, nobody can make her gay.  At best you can make her bi.

Exactly. And they think this is "inclusive".  Velma was the chubby nerdy girl, which was pretty inclusive. Now she's a thirsty lesbian calculated to support basement dweller masturbatory fantasy.

Related: Shelia Kuhn is retiring this year. Earlier, the shiat bag sheriff raided her house b/c she had the audacity to ask him for the bare minimum of accountability. He lost reelection and the county passed a ballot initiative to give councilors the power to impeach his ass. That's how farking awful the sheriff was.

"How Velma's Nerdy Relatability Is Expanding Inclusion in the 'Scooby-Doo' Universe"

uhhh sure, or my POV:

How Velma's Nerdy Relatability a pass time show with an intellectual demand suited to 5-10 year olds is Expanding Inclusion in the 'Scooby-Doo' Universe somehow now our culture's adult middle bell pass time without having evolved much past being a show suited for the 5-10 year old demographic.

That's a revisionist theory not based in fact. Velma was based on a character Kuhn played, not Kuhn herself, who didn't become a public activist until years after the Scooby Doo show had premiered. If anything, Velma was rendered asexual, since the character she was patterned after was always scheming to get together with Dobie Gillis, but Velma never shows that much interest in anyone beyond paying the vaguest of attention to Shaggy. In the original series, although it's assumed that Fred and Daphne are a couple, none of the gang demonstrate any serious attraction to anyone.

Hanna Barbera wasn't trying to sneak anything into Scooby Doo that might have perturbed middle America in the 1960s. They were already under heavy criticism for the violence in shows like Space Ghost (seriously), and wanted Scooby Doo to be the one of the most vanilla and uncontroversial things they'd ever produced.

Bugs wasn't originally a kids' cartoon: He and Merrie Melodies were created to promote Warner Brothers pictures and music catalog (by performing hits from the current roster of talent) to adults and all-ages shows in movie theaters.  Bugs became a star in his own right during the run up to WWII and then got used to pitch product and service to young draft-age men, appear in USO shows, propagandize the war effort, sell war bonds, etc.  He was probably the first cartoon-star whose audience was young men, not children.  His earlt cartoons reflect that, and that kind of became his schtick forever.
