They have a picture in their head of how the world has always been and how it should stay that is, well, not how it has ever been and the world has already changed. There were people, politicians, who reassured them that they were right about everything and the hippies were wrong, but that position has become indefensibly counter-factual and has been abandoned by most of those in any position of real credibility or authority.

This leaves an opening for people with no credibility or authority but plenty of ambition to step in and claim that, no, the hippies were wrong about everything (not just fashion and music) and that there's still reason to fight for the fantasy version of the world in your head.

It amuses me to notice that these weirdos actually seem to have embraced hippie fashion and music, the two main things that science has proven that the hippies got wrong.

If you need to "supplement" your day-to-day income renting out your leisure toy then you can't actually afford that toy. Betcha is not even properly insured for renting.

Initially I was less than entirely sympathetic as the story was that they rented it to grifter dildo lady without even a name check.

But now that it's evident it was rented through a fraudulent front person and the owners did, in fact, at least google creep them... *shudder*

Some friends of mine started themselves a mini-business a couple years ago during Covid where they rent out a set of 4-5 adventure vans & Class-B RVs they own.

It's steadily become an unadulterated nightmare. Skeevy renters have variously trashed, crashed, and abandoned their vehicles, lied about where they're going & what they're doing, left it completely disgusting inside. Anything you could imagine. There just aren't enough good normal renters to make up for the value damage the minority of absolutely destructive lying A-holes exist as customers in the business. They feel completely stupid at this point and are working their way out of it now.

Uh... it doesn't said they are in financial straights. It just says they don't use it often to rent it out fr some extra cash.

They only got suspicious when another RV pulled up with Didulos face plastered on it when the deal was done.

Then they googled her and I assume they got that dropping stomach feeling which in turn made their buttholes involuntarily clench.

They had another lady there to rent it like a straw renter or some sh*t so maybe they did due diligence on that person and got duped.

I do independent IT work.  I have a bunch of regular customers, both businesses and person, who are Conservative.  They're great to deal with, generally no-nonsense folks.  If they call me I know they're likely in trouble and they're good about letting me do my work and don't balk at paying.

I generally keep my political affiliation to myself but it's hard to ignore the gay pride flag in front of my house and the Biden/Harris sign that was in my lawn in 2020.

What I do find amusing is that they're the ones that are WAY more prone to pay me in cash and suggest that they won't report the payment to the IRS so I won't need to either.

Uh... no. There was a contract. When they called the cops after sh*t started getting weird they were told by the RCMP to wait until the contract was up then they could do something.

This is Canada. Sometimes people are super sh*tty like this but more often people respect and honor their agreements. They had been renting it out for ages and never had a problem before this.

And they aren't "SHOCKED" at getting stiffed. The article literally says they are chocking it up to a loss because they see no point continuing to engage with a bunch of lunatics.

I'm assuming the repairs will be less than what they've earned renting it out. Hell, Didulo's own rental might cover it all.

I am however curious what the insurance companies of both parties think about all this.

I'm guessing... unamused.

Between the two countries, there are 370,000,000 people.

Even if 99.99% of people are rational, sane individuals, that leaves tens of thousands of morons.

Unfortunately, I don't think the proportion of rational and sane individuals is quite that high.
