Land Fraud is one of the oldest scams in the book.

It's also supposed to be illegal.

I was never dumb enough to pay into that scam. But if they take those ads down, then all my youtube ads will become manscape ones. Youtube algorithm is obsessed with making my junk smooth.

I thought the rule was you had to own a castle to be a lord.  The problem with a castle is it could be a heritage listed pile of rocks and you would be up for the property tax and the annual heritage inspection. That isn't going to be cheap. I know a guy who inherited that sort of problem. He now owns 1,000 or so acres which have been leased to other families for hundreds of years. He can't raise the rent and can't kick them out and their rent nearly covers the cost of dealing with the heritage paperwork, upkeep and taxes. The farms on the land aren't producing much so things just keep going on like they have for centuries.

Well only lords and earls could afford to build a castle, and had to have permission from the king to do so.

As king of the Shinji3i FARKer Dynasty, I hereby grant all of you biatches the title of Lord if you desire. I require no payment but that of one picture in one caturday thread at some point in past, present, or future. May your lordshipping be blessed and you put Lord as title at your next stay at a Days Inn.

How are people still falling for this type of thing? The whole "pay some company money to own land/get a title/etc in a faraway place" thing has always been a scam.

I still own that star though, right?

Wierdly enough I was just reading about the older version of these scams that quaker oats did long ago (early 1900s i believe). If you sent in enough box tops, you could get a 10ft by 10ft plot of land in some vacant lot. The land and parcels were real, but collecting taxes on such tiny plots of land was a massive headache for the county tax collectors so they eventually condemed all the lots and took them back.

Wow.

"I believe there was a church in Bridgeport who insisted on keeping its oatmeal lot, and I think we ended up condemning it and taking it," the former mayor said.

I would take a case like that just to depose the mayor (if I could practice law in that state)...

Nope, to be a Lord in the UK you have to be granted the title of Marquess, Earl, Viscount or Baron by a monarch. If the title was initially made hereditary then you can be a Lord when your farther dies.

Any thing else is either a scam (like this) or a customary title that has no meaning.

/This is for Lord as a title and not lord as an honorific

I mean, just like the star name thing, you're buying a novelty piece of parchment. For like, what, 50 bucks?

It's not as if they're telling you you now own the rights to Jodorowsky's Dune and you're paying $3mil for it or something.

When my uncle was a kid, he won a cereal box competition, grand prize: a ticket for a ride on the first commercial spaceflight. Of course, by the time that such a thing became a reality, the cereal company had been out of business for over fifty years,

Is it really a scam or just good-natured, tongue-in-cheek silliness? After all, nobody would be sofa king dumb that they would actually believe that...

You may laugh now but once I get to the star I bought the mineral rights will be worth an absolute fortune.

Yeah I mean so many people advertise for raid shadow legends that it simply has to be the greatest game ever and couldn't possibly be shiat.

My sister gave me one of those things about five years ago as a birthday present.

At no point did either of us believe that it made me an actual "Lord" or that it involved ownership of land. It was just a novelty gift that I still have on my wall.

But let me tell you about the legal nightmare that is involved in evicting indigenous species from the planets around that star I had named after myself. Its like they don't even recognize Earth courts or something.
