Morning coffee on west coast, turn on TV and see Team McJesus and That One Other Guy losing early in the first period.

Good times.

Breadman scores. Er, nope.

Another tear jerker in Toronto on HNIC.  I hope the Leafs keep that patch on for the rest of the season.

I don't agree with Fischler often, but he was the only hockey pundit I saw who called the Oilers out for bamboozling everyone with their offseason "improvements" while almost everyone else penciled them in the Stanley Cup Finals predictions.

I mean, they improved in net, sure, but they still aren't finals contenders, since they can't beat the big teams of the conference.

Oilers got a YOUNGER goalie. Not a BETTER goalie.

I dunno, overall I'd say Soup is better than Smith, just not right now.  I was legit sad to have lost him.

I'll keep on saying it.  Campbell can make big saves, but he can't make THAT save.  And having C level defense in front of him isn't making things easier.

I'll go one further, he can make THAT save, but he can't make THAT save everytime, and that's where a bad defence exposes him.  If you only get two miracle saves a game and need four, that's a defence issue

That might have been one of the worst line changes I've seen all season and Marner's moves completely fooled the goalie

Crosby was pretty grumpy about it - kicking the boards on the bench. He's now gone to the room, probably for kicking the blade out of his skate. lol

It would both be funny and not funny if he actually injured himself kicking the boards like that.

Wow, it's deathly quiet in the arena in Pittsburgh. I guess that's what a goal 40 secs in will do

First three-quarters of that Leaf power play looked pretty good considering how much fail is has had recently.
They had some good set ups, good passing and got off a couple of decent shots that DeSmith had to be sharp on.

In the category of "He's right, you know:" WPG goalie flat out calls for a rule change after a goal was scored on him well after his mask was knocked off yesterday v Dallas. He's a well articulated argument he makes on this. Link

Holy hell, it's only when you have possession?  That's insane

Bieksa being a dick again, but HNIC just went over that Winnipeg thing and that was way worse than I thought it was.  That should have been blown dead as a danger to player safety

So I had to look to; rule 9.6 on helmets says in part:

When a goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask and his team has control of the puck, play shall be stopped immediately to allow the goalkeeper the opportunity to regain his helmet and/or face mask. When the opposing team has control of the puck, play shall only be stopped if there is no immediate and impending scoring opportunity. This stoppage of play must be made by the Referee. When play is stopped because the goalkeeper has lost his helmet and/or face mask, the ensuing face-off shall take place at one of the defending team's end zone face-off spots.

That need to be fixed. HNIC just showed the goal and that is unacceptable. Sounds like the league is going to take a look at that and that's a change that should be made in the name of player safety immediately.
