Original YTMND database failed without backup.  Good to see the domain alive with the spirit.

Zardoz was made many years before the Mario Brothers movie. Not after.

Say what you will about the cocaine era in Hollywood, it certainly delivered some "Fark it, why not?" greenlights we enjoy to this day

I'd say a broad spectrum of drugs went into the making of Zardoz. They probably cleaned out all the dealers in Ireland during the shoot

If you have a chance get the dvd & listen to Boormans commentary. He literally calls his making this mess Hubris. Too ambitious & it got out of control. It's also the only movie of the fantastic podcast How Did This Get Made that did 2 episodes on the same movie.

Zardoz is a perfect example of the Reboot mania that's taken over modern movies. They remake excellent movies, but don't touch thoughtful or ambitious movies that just crashed & burned because of circumstances, bad casting, terrible crew or awful scripting. Zardoz is a movie that should be remade into a coherent movie.I'm probably the only person that thinks it should be remade as a miniseries. There's a huge amount of world building & musings on immortality & memory that just got crushed into a block of 1970s cheese topped with Connery's red Diaper.

NO, thought I may be skewed, I only saw it once, while in high school back in the 90's when it came on a movie channel one day, So through the eyes of a teen with no sense of refined taste who enjoyed watching many B movies. Is shows when it was made, and there were issues with the plot, but there was underlying questions and ideas in it that deserved to be explored again. With a decent budget, no Connery, and better writers to clean it up. Plus a mini series would probably be better then a movie, complicated concepts need time to develop and flesh out, and the pains of immortality in it were kind of interesting and deserving to be done well.

Any attempt to remake and improve or expand upon Zardoz WOULD be hubris.

I was about to say that they're actually going to remake Highlander,  which is an exception to your statement that they're not remaking anything that didn't live up to its original potential, but that one seems stuck in development hell.

My point stands.

I unironically love this movie. I like a movie that Tries Something, even if it isn't entirely successful in its attempts. Better than neverending soulless box-office money-grabs.

farking hate that movie. No shot was that dude blind. Also I hate getting a Christisn Indoctrination shoved down my throat.

Also there's NO farkING WAY the Bible, nest seller since the printing press and before, doesn't have a million surviving copies

I didn't see the movie. Is that the one with the line "the penis is evil?" Anyway, it's on my list.

Repo Man is still my go to movie for inducing flashbacks.

That might be more a believable amount.

Seriously, that is one book not being lost unless it is purposefully destroyed.

I think that was the implication, but like even still there's no shot. Hell how are people, after the apocalypse, supposed to coordinate doing that
