My dad brought up some random nonsense GOP talking points about Twitter today, and I said I think Twitter will still exist by Christmas, but I don't see it making it to the summer.

I'm becoming less and less confident in the first part of that.

I don't think Melon knew that Twatler was a global company or even cares that it is. He's probably just fine with shedding all it's non-US business.

The GDPR fines they are setting up for...

Oh wait. That's why they drive all their advertisers away. To have no revenue for the fine to target x% of revenue.

Genius

There is apolitical random nonsense.

There are also GOP talking points which are coherent, but obviously bullshiat.

Feh. Elon puts rockets in space; he's not afraid of a trading bloc that generates one-fifth of global GDP. Who the hell does the EU think they are?!

Before this and the "amnesty" he announced for suspended accounts (this will probably get watered down or completely walked back when even more advertisers bail), I would have said before summer as well.

He's admitted that revenue has already fallen way off so unless he has some crazy profitable subscription scheme (8 bucks for a check mark ain't it) things will end much sooner.

I'm no banker or businessman but I wonder if he's going to double down and inject more capital in this thing to temporarily keep it afloat.

He's crossed home plate a few times in his career (after starting at at least second base with a good lead). A failure of this magnitude would shatter a lot of people's weird worship of him as some genius.

Wow, that's a special kind of evil.  Was that the plan all along?  Did they rehire people because the initial severance was too generous and they wanted to reset it shorter?  Definitely sounds like a Musk move, and maybe not even illegal, but holy crap that's shiatty.

It explains why he's closing up shop in places like the EU. I hear they have labor regulations over there.

I read it as the employee got 3 months, then got another 4 weeks, so effectively 4 months' severance. Plus the few days of actual work he did prior to being fired again. That should be what he should get. At least.

I'll bet he had to forfeit the three months severance as part of the re-hire.  If not, then not so bad.  But if so, ubershiatty.

Well, after re-reading it, and others' posts as well, that's my new take. He loses the 3 month severance and got just the 4 week severance. I'd sue if I were him, for sure.

No, he got laid off and told he would receive 3 months.  Then brought back on, and then fired and told he'd get a month if he signed a form that said he can't sue them.

Doesn't really matter how much capital he injects.  The problem is, as Trump found out, when you're a chaos demon the kind of people who are willing to work for you aren't exactly the most competent and trustworthy bunch.

Gacha mechanics where the famous figures you're allowed to send tweets to can be bought with Melon tokens, and if you buy 10 at once, then you're guaranteed the ability to @ a 4 star famous person.

Not that they'll reply, but you can @ them like you could before, but semi-exclusively.

Melon is a secret 6 star famous person, but he only did that so people would stop being mean to him.

At this point I just feel sorry for these people, are they that sensitive that referring to the United States of America simply as the States, actually offends them?  Because that isn't a new nickname for the US.  In fact, it's actually kind of a flex that you can simply stay "States" abroad and everybody knows which country you're talking about even though we are not the only country that has states.

I love the bit about the women's soccer team kneeling during the national anthem.  Kneeling is still a display of respect, and there's nothing less patriotic than just accepting problems you see with your own country.

That's actually way less evil that what a company i used to work for, did to an Indian colleague of mind. They hired him when he was on a student visa, one that allowed you to work for a few months while your h1-b application got processed.
After a while, the head honcho told him that the visa was ready, he just had to go back to his home country to get his passport stamped.
Once he was back home, they told "surprise, sucker, we never even applied for the visa !"
The guy had been living in the USA for three years now, he had a car, an appartement full of stuff... He lost everything just because the guys at my company wanted a cheap developper for a few months.

Like whether he's trying to build the company up or destroy it, it will end in the same dumpster fire. I'm still curious which branches he'll fall on depending which side of the tree he falls.

He fired the human rights team on Twitter, which was responsible for a lot of work trying to prevent authoritarian countries from using Twitter against their own people (not that they always succeed). Clearly human rights isn't a concern any more.
