Hoping to find a good sale on a 3070 tomorrow.  My 3060 has been nothing but trouble for two years.  I do not recommend buying prebuilt systems.  I have had to replace everything but the processor and motherboard.

I tried the Darktide pre-order beta but you can't play with bots.  You have to play with strangers and that's not me.  I'll be back on the 30th.

I always wanted a Colecovision as a kid.  Never got one.

It says buy poster but you get the first one free. Extras are 5000 Bells each. I have four profiles and all the residents get sent one.

Next (and final?) goal is to get the Golden Shovel. I have no idea how many times I have yet to help Gulliver.

I've been playing some Pokemon Scarlet. Parts of it are good, parts of it are alright, and parts of it are WTF.

The gym leaders are... it feels like they dug in the trash can for ideas from old games that didn't make it and just used those. :S I just beat e-girl shark loli and her simp squad for a badge.

The sandwich making is terrible and the curry minigame in the previous one (Sword/Shield) was so much better. It does a number of things very well but it feels like it needed more direction.

Favorite system/game as a kid. Never really had the chance. For either (or being a kid).

We got an Atari for Christmas in 1978. That would have made me 4. I remember snooping for presents with my sister and seeing it under my father's bed. I had no idea what a video game was and my sister tried to explain but... 4 year old in the '70s.

I played it a little bit but my older siblings monopolized it. I was more into roaming the woods with my dogs hiatting trees with sticks, anyway.

First system I had of my own was an OG Gameboy I bought in 1990. Couldn't really afford any games so Tetris it was. Lots of Tetris. I had Contra and Mario Land for it, too. Then came a Genesis. I really love the old Sonic games. Always tried to get Perfect for the rings.

Money has always been really tight so whatever games I do get I play the ever-loving-piss out of. Ya'll been seeing me post about Animal Crossing for over a year and a half, over 1500 hours in that game.

Last week's Panther Statue in GTAV:Online  pushed me over the brink and I hit Level 300 and now have over $100 million in cash.

Am I going to stop playing now? No, of course not, don't be ridiculous.

Favourite systems when I was a kid? Brace yourself, CSB incoming.

When I was in high school the Panasonic 3DO launched amidst unparalleled levels of hype. It's graphic capabilities were truly eye-popping (for the time, of course) but equally eye-popping was its exorbitant price. I don't recall what it was at launch, but I do know that it was several magnitudes beyond what a high school student with no job could reasonably afford, and not only that, it would be preposterous to even ask my parents to buy it. The price was that ridiculous.

A few months later, some friends and I find out that one of the local video rental places, a little mom and pop shop called 'Flicks', has a 3DO system for rent. A weekend rental, from Friday at 4pm to Sunday at noon is $40 and also requires a $300 credit card deposit. Games are $5 each or so per day. So for a weekend rental and a few games, we're looking at around $60. The credit card deposit was a problem since all of our parents didn't like the idea, but eventually someone's parents did it and we rented it.

It was pretty incredible. We rented a system for a weekend several times over the next year and played a lot of Road Rash, Myst, Pit Figher, Need for Speed, Killing Time, Doom and others. Funny story about Myst, because the "ending" of the original is the biggest non-ending in a game, possibly ever, we wasted TWO weekend rentals on that f*ckin' game because we didn't realize we had actually finished it.

Fast forward many years later and 'Flicks' is closing its doors permanently and liquidating all the inventory.

My friend stops in and what do they have for sale? The very same 3DO we played so many times, years earlier.

So my friend bought it for $80, along with all the 3DO games they had left.

And that system is still at his house and still works to this day.

The hilarious part, of course, is that if you add up all those weekend rentals and the $80 my friend paid to buy the console, we probably could have bought two of those bastards.

:D

I was in the grocery store talking to the deli guy who was cutting some turkey for me. He mentioned "Last of Us".

Me: "Have you heard of Alien: Isolation?"

Him: "Oh, man. I have that. I got it in a Humble Bundle years ago and I keep forgetting to play it."

Me: "Play it tonight with the lights off."

Him: "Okay, I'll give it a shot!"

:D

Still messing about with the Steam Deck. Anyone have a suggestion for a portable touchscreen monitor (15.6" or so) that I could use for it?

Also: Gun Grave G.O.R.E. or Evil West: who you picking?

Lastly, since I had (or had access to thru friends in the neighborhood) pretty much all the consoles up until PS1, I have to go with the system that just keep pulling me back in over & over again: TG-16/PC-Engine. No matter how many times I have owned one & then ended up selling it, I always end up getting some version of it again. There was just something about it that defies reason and good sense. I mean it did well enough in Japan but was a third place machine here in the U.S. But the games...some of them were just so good (and a few were all time HOF titles), that you just can't ignore the little thing, even after all these years.

Haven't played much this week, between the holidays and NaNoWriMo.

I have been getting in my lunch hour games of Magic the Gathering Arena, where I'm currently mired in Silver Tier 1 rank for Constructed, but unranked for Limited, since I haven't done a draft tournament yet, and I have unlocked a hefty number of Brother's War boosters already, so I really need to deckbuild.

I've also done a couple of very quick sessions of Disney Dreamlight Valley, where I still need to unlock Prince Eric and earn enough Dreamlight to open the Forgotten Land before the Toy Storyupdate drops in December.

As for the side question, anyone who reads my posts in these threads would probably be unsurprised to learn that I had an Amiga 500 as a kid, so a lot of my nostalgia goes to the games that I had on that platform, notably Batman the Movie, NARC, M1A1 Tank Platoon, The Secret of Monkey Island, The New Zealand Story, and, of course, Zool, Ninja from the Nth Dimension

Playing the EA closed beta of Starcom Unknown Space, which is a sequel of sorts to Starcom Nexus.  It's pretty good, but being in beta it definitely needs tweaking as it's super stingy with materials.  Still, a fun spacey real-time game, nothing too serious but I like it.

Picked up Zero Sievert, plan to play that this weekend.

Favorite game/system when I was a kid:  pong (1978).  a pre-teen:  Atari 2600(1982).  teen:  C64 (1986).

But I lusted after my friends systems...be it an Intellivision, ColecoVision, Vectrex.

The Contra Anniversary Collection is 80% off on the Switch, so I figured I could spare a few dollars.

Very late in the NES lifecycle (I think the N64 was out by that point), we had bought Super C for a few dollars, and I played it enough to beat it without the code. 20+ years later, my attempts were... less successful.

Contra III is an absolute classic, although I figured I might as well try the European version instead, Super Probotector Alien Rebels. It's been a while since I played the original, but other than the fact that the player characters have been reskinned as robots, I haven't noticed any difference.

I also gave the original arcade version a shot. It's definitely the same game as the NES version but... you know when you watch the pilot of a cartoon series, and all the characters are drawn ugly and deformed, and move in all sorts of weird and wrong ways? That exactly how the arcade version feels.

I've been playing Pokemon Violet lately, which is pretty fun but kinda janky. I ended up accidently with a half eeveelution party and decided to just go with it all the way, though it's starting to get a little boring so I'll probably start cycling them out as I find more powerful/interesting replacements for them. And yesterday I picked up Far Cry 6 on sale, which is pretty decent so far, but... I don't really like the weapon upgrade system they have in it.

As for favorite system as a kid, that would probably be the SNES. Such a vivid part of my childhood. I played so many hours of Megaman x, Star Fox, and Link to the Past.

Since some of you are talking about Pokemon Scarlet/Violet... I'll probably buy one of those to my son for Christmas, but it feels wrong to chose which version to pick for him.

I mean... I already had to choose between Ultra Sun and Utra Moon once, but at the time, we had also just started playing the CCG, and he had a Lunala themed deck, so picking Moon was a no brainer.

This time, though, I'm torn. I'm probably overthinking this...

maybe i'll try something new this weekend...
