I thought "handgun execution of someone on their knees, hands tied behind back, bag over head, as halftime entertainment at a sporting event". Also not too far off.

The people in the first picture actually have readily available access to information that easily disproves their entire worldview and therefore makes them more pathetic excuses for humans as they choose to blindly follow propaganda more obvious than what tiny mustache was peddling in the 30s?

All our political theories are really wrong and broken.

Democracy may not spring out of desperation, as  the an off-the-shelf answer in an environment of very strict religious and  tribal centered environment on a war time footing.

One social theory says the patriarchal mode weakens when people can afford to be free.  Otherwise the strong are given more privilege because they are too much needed and the weak, young, female, scholarly, artistic need to be physically protected more than allowed to prosper.    In other word, unless there's prosperity, bullies are needed for protection.  Conservatives worship bullies, whether in religion, politics, policing, or business.

One group is GLORIOUS CHRISTIAN PATRIOTS!

The other is a bunch of heathen durty mooselimbs.

johnryan51: We were there for 20 yrs. They chose poorly.

Don't forget that Afghanis are (still) selling daughters because they can't grow, or buy, enough food. Human trafficking? Technically yes, but the girls of poor families will literally starve if the family doesn't get the money from selling them into marriage. You want to fix that, you don't need a bunch of cops... we needed to ensure that these people would be able to grow enough food and have access to clean water. That's also a huge problem in India, where a lot of children are sold to be "housekeepers" (sex slaves) because the parents literally can't feed (or in some cases: have water for) their kids. Oh and contraception is nearly non-existent, if it's not outlawed outright.

The biggest problem, initially was we had no end plan. Then we subcontracted it out to companies that, effectively, stole a lot of money. Even what we sold them the military could never maintain without us, or more appropriately US contractors. The entire thing was a sham. We spent a shiatload of time transferring wealth to the rich in America, and to a few Afghanis, instead of being realistic and setting up the country to be self-sufficient.

It's long past time for humanity to boycott the entire Middle East until they can start policing this crap on their own.

No world cups, no oil purchasing, etc.

Not until leadership in the region can figure out this isn't the dark ages.

isn't it the Afghanis that do that dead goat equestrian game? well, obviously when not having fun flogging women in public....

Public flogging in of itself is not an evil punishment.

There are some crimes against the people, Medicare fraud for example, that should get the cat' a swinging.

No, no sweetie.  The other posters are just rudely pointing out that publicly flogging gay people is in fact less reactionary and more reasonable than going into night clubs and slaughtering them like we do here.  And those US extremists are aided and abetted by right wing lunatics of every shade who are either morally corrupt or politically corrupt beyond the point that they can't even disown homophobic murderers.

That Republican Party, surely you remember them?

What's your point?  There's nothing to boycott in Afghanistan anyway.

Afghanistan is a predominantly Muslim country.  It's never going to change unless other predominantly Muslim countries force it to.

Hence boycotting predominantly Muslim countries in the Middle East (where there also things worthy of boycotting)

There's zero evidence the night club shooter was Republican or influenced by any conservatives or republicans.

I get that the media ran with that narrative.

But they have zero evidence to support it.

Afghanistan's national pastime?

Reminds me of the phrase "America's national pastime," which reminds me of sport, which brings me to this...

For the life of me I can't understand that while we in Australia have had strong media coverage mention the issue of human rights as it relates to the World Cup, not even the tiniest mention has been made of human rights issues as it relates to this:

https://www.adelaideoval.com.au/events/australia-v-afghanistan/

That's right, Australia invited a team from Afghanistan to play an international cricket event earlier this month.

And nothing at all was said about the fact that the organisers must have negotiated with the Taliban to get this to happen.

Why not? Vested interests have anything to do with silencing dissenting voices in this case?

Also, there is plenty of media coverage over objections to ISIS brides and children from Australia being resettled back home, so why not look into this cricket match as well?

https://www.9news.com.au/national/isis-brides-australia-mayor-frank-carbone-lashes-plans-to-resettle-western-sydney/b75f31db-5ad3-4bec-9f46-8136a1cbbb4c

Rather selective treatment of these issues, I feel.
