Journalists hate it when people tell them to do better. A lot of folks have become quite comfortable being essentially PR and even outright propaganda, and how DARE the masses tell them that they don't want that sh*t there!

Our media has suffered for the last twenty years or so. It's not about news, it's about 'narrative' and when you go into posting stories that have a particular slant and eventual denouement, you're not really participating in journalism, you are essentially telling stories that might be true, if seen from a particular point of view, maybe. Or outright lies and sensationalism that is supposed to scream "PAY ATTENTION TO ME!" as opposed to actually delivering news or content.

Our media has grown complacent being given stories and instructions on how to put them together, and who to target, without any actual input but their own delivery, and even that is scripted. It's resulted in a lazy media who just want someone to do it for them. And it's gonna be rough for folks who can't adapt and actually DO the stuff that they were actually trained to do, back in the day, when they had dreams.

Sounds like the 45 or so servers that are blocking journalists are actually doing everyone a favor.  They are keeping their paranoia away from voyeur types who might mainstream their thoughts and thus create a vortex of suck.

Everyone needs to accept that there's no requirement in life to be generally loved by all.  It takes decades of work and being on the outside and not caring about being ignored or ostracized, to get to the point that people cherish someone.  Think Jimmy Carter, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson.

If people don't want media types crawling over their stuff, fine.  Media types need to understand they aren't universally loved.  Being pissy over a minute number like 45 in 7000 is very childish

Mastodon is a dangerous alternative for folks reporting risky information.

While Twitter "proper" had safeguards due to the centralized nature of the servers.
Mastodon has the exact opposite. Random servers catering to your perspective.
Each server is a breeding ground for malware and surreptitious monitoring.

Well nature and the internet abhor a vacuum so right now people are looking for the next big thing to move to. Something will pop up in the next year and Twitter will join myspace friendster and the rest in the retirement home.

Mastodon is going through growing pains right now.  LOTS of people are joining and finding their way around.  If this had been the original popular social platform and Twitter was the "little brother," there would be lots of teeth-gnashing and "OMG, this really sucks" comments as users tried out Twitter.

That said, I'm finding lots of good content on Mastodon.  It's not the same, but I'm finding myself enjoying that site more and more.

Now would be a good time for Drew to release Chitter. TFD wrapped in a shiny new app with a cute squirrel logo and posts can be called "Nuts". $10/month gets you a logo with bigger nuts next to your name. You'd have people everywhere "Nutting" like crazy and the cash would come rolling in.
