jmr61: WTF is that website?

McSweeney's is like the London Times to The Onion's New York Times. Same purpose, just with a (usually) classier and more extensive vocabulary.

Same here. Without any pretext, I don't get it.

I have it on good authority from my Faux-News-watching neighbor that those are all real, honest-to-gosh headlines from The Republican News-Gazette he got in the mail just before election day.

Well, most of them anyway. He thinks a few of them may have been pub-crawl thingies he saw on Cucker Tarlson's fantasy news show.

The Onion is parody.

Either this is real or else someone really wanted to kill me.

McSweeny, wasn't he a contributor to AICN a few years back?

He left a bit before I did and that was before whatshisname got #METOO'ed.

Richard Wagner wrote a little opera epic called The Ring of the Nieblung that has 4 parts. The whole cycle is retelling of Norse/Germanic folklore and mythology. Farkers, including myself, would know it best as the opera that's parodied in 'What's Opera, Doc?', aka 'Kill Da Wabbit!'

This bit is recasting/resetting The Ring cycle in Florida.

The headline pretty much explains it. It's Wagner's Ring Cycle but in the form of "Florida Man" headlines. Siegfried certainly fits the stereotype.

I'm mostly familiar with it via Stephen Donaldson, the Thomas Covenant books are heavily based on it and his Gap Cycle, from whence I took my handle, is basically a Wagnerian space opera.
