I mostly like this news, since everyone knows Caruso was a Republican.

However, Bass still has not come out strongly enough on her past support of Scientology.  Her "I was not aware of the abuses of the church" defense is total crap.  It was 10 years ago.  Everyone knew long before that.

And worse, the opening wasn't even in her district.

So it's tough to fully celebrate this until she shows that she's not going to be out there pandering to cults and churches, or giving religion undue influence in her decisions and policy.

The six-term congresswoman and former state lawmaker overcame Caruso's 10-to-1 spending advantage to win a close contest between two Democrats. the Democrat, and a billionaire opportunist pro-life/anti-voice, big business Republican who only registered as a Democrat before the election to try to fool people into voting for him.

chawco: The article made her sounds pretty fantastic. She rose from physicians assistant (a noble enough profession but hardly one of prestige) to state speaker, congresswoman, and.now mayor of one of the world's biggest cities.

I appreciate people who pull themselves up a lot.more than people who start 3/4 of the way up and then achieve success. When you start at the base of the pyramid, there's a lot more people scrabbling, a lot who will crab bucket you back down I they can, a lot.more push down from the top, and a hell of a lot further to climb.

Good for her. A rare success story in a society that's getting more and more bottom heavy, and only rewarding those born at the top.


She lost her progressive chops when she leaned into the "tough on crime" line almost everyone did this election, and her position on the unhoused and 41.18 are abysmal.

But definitely a better choice than anti-abortion, Mitch McConnell donor Rick Caruso.
