I generally require clients to provide all payments in dollars.

It's still up from where it was a couple of months ago. Sucks if you got paid right at the end of October though.

I think mentioning HODL kind of undercuts any point that meme was attempting to make.

The contract they negotiated was based in dollars. And with sterling sliding to its weakest level against the greenback since the mid-1980s, being paid by the client in dollars rather than pounds would have meant making more money for the same amount of work.
The answer was "no."

Well if their salary is still based on dollars it's the same thing.  You'd still have to pay them more pounds to match the dollar,
