Or, and here's a thought,
Maybe you could just ignore it, stop enforcing it, and we can make it legal on both a state-wide basis and federal basis...

//I'm sure it's still illegal for a black woman to take a white woman's bench in some places, but thankfully we don't enforce that...

It's OK, the state doesn't give a fark about federal law... so why should the municipal tier give a shiat about the state?

The Federal Government is to States rights

As

State governments are to _____ rights

Come on, Jim Bob, I know you can figure this one out....

It fits right along with what you have been saying...

You got this...

It's decriminalized, not legal. The locals won't bust you for personal, but there's someone looking for the and cases.

Denton banned franking. The state cares so much about local control they sued the town. Roller peg don't give a fark (but I guarantee him and Bassett hound Patrick smoke).

This is Texas. If "those" people are enjoying life more by smoking pot, good ol' boys will make sure it stays illegal.

There isn't enough weed in Texas to make Killeen tolerable, so it doesn't matter.

So my town hasn't decriminalized it BUT they have also said that below a certain amount, they can't afford to have it tested. It has to be tested because possession of hemp and Delta-8 isn't illegal

Oh that's easy. Sheriff's Rights.

If it's a red sheriff in a blue state, they can ignore any law, just like a red state can ignore any federal law. They truly are the supreme authority in the land.

Maryland legalized recreational use of cannabis so I'm pretty excited. I plan on growing a couple of plants

Let most go under local law, bust minorities under state law?

Well the state can just come into town and arrest people who violate state law, so the people who get arrested would probably care.

I can grow here in VA too.  I might use it to make some topical cream.

This doesn't really accomplish anything. Whenever a cop in one of these towns catches someone with weed, all they have to do is call in a sheriff's deputy and detain the perp until the deputy arrives. Hell, local cop probably likes this arrangement. There's less paperwork, and since the deputy is making the arrest, the cop doesn't have to transport the perp to county jail (assuming the town's too small to have it's own jail).

I'm very interested to see how this is all going to play out. This was a county that up until 20 years ago, had only two towns where you could legally buy liquor.  The local bible thumpers must be apoplectic right now.

Bible thumpers and the military. Not a recipe for a good time.

It's Texas, so the solution should be immediately obvious.  Secede from the state.

But how else will they fill up private prisons with minorities?

Isn't the point of this vote to change the law?

ViolentEastCoastCity: Isn't the point of this vote to change the law?

No. It's about municipalities not wanting the responsibility for arresting and charging marijuana possessors and leaving it up to county and state police.

If you're riding dirty and get pulled over by city cops, they won't arrest you. If you get pulled over by state or country police you may with odds of arrest sky rocketing if you are brown.

The other part of it cost control. Under a certain amount, municipalities have to cover the cost of testing out of their own pocket. My town determined it would cost $40k a year to do that testing. Over a certain amount, the state will test it for the cities

You could always bust a few Legislators (or their staffers or family) who travel I35 South to Austin who may be opposed to the idea behind the ballot referendum but at the same time would be hauling some dope like they're above the law.

Of course the AG would be suing the town and threatening to take it over but the field day that ensues may hit the floor of the Texas House where hypocracy is a game best played against the weak..

Denton has a jail, but if I recall, it's part of the same complex as county, andJulie.

Lived there for a while. Cool people, town is kind of a shiathole

Killeen/Harker Heights: semi-transient (due to Fort Hood), quickly growing, vaguely center-right on average

Temple: mix of good ol' boys and transplanted hospital staff, "the bidness of bidness is bidness" (replaced nutball Molly White with center-right good ol' boy Hugh Shine a few years back)

Belton: quickly growing Austin exurb, for those too poor or too right-wing to live in increasingly moderate Williamson County

Rest of county: *Dueling Banjos in background*, sheriffs come from here

/ more familiar with Little River-Academy than I'd like to be
// Temple ISD was intellectual freedom by comparison
/// GTFO as soon as the diploma hit my hand
