Move on, it'll never be the same as before the pandemic for a handful of reasons.

As long as movie theaters require pants I'm out.

People willingly gave them billions of dollars to set on fire.

Amazing.

Well, not really.  The public offering AMC managed to complete only raised ~$600 million.

The money people "lost" on AMC didn't go to the company - it went to people selling the stock.  Remember, when you buy a share on the open market, you aren't sending money to the company - you are sending money to whoever owned the stock beforehand.  Open public offers are actually few and far between - AMC's public offer in 2021 happened to be one.

/Your point still stands.. I'm that ackually guy pointing out that it wasn't billions, but "mere" millions.
//I took one look at that dumpster fire and said "Nope, not even going to toast a marshmellow on that - would taste of old diapers, burning tires and despair".

Correction stands... millions not billions, but a ton of cash from the retail crowd. I mean... a fund can lose $100m and just write it off and go onto the next thing. A lot of these people, is WSB is any indication, bet it all on AMC... That's just madness.

Nice trades in there. I made a few hundred percent on a few puts, but didn't stick around too long. But to hold that thing and believe it would moon? My god.

As I've said many times, pre-pandemic movie ticket sales had been dropping for two decades, and in 2019, reached a low not seen since the 1990s.

Anyone who thought this trend would be reversed was well, an idiot.

I'm still going to the theater to see Violent Night. If it is half as good as the trailer it should be awesome with a crowd.

/Not an AMC theater though

I still find it amazing that almost all of them point to or think about the short squeeze that happened in Volkswagen/Porsche... when that whole thing happened it was almost like a perfect storm. Nothing like that is ever going to happen like that ever again. It was a total fluke.

New analysis reveals how Porsche-VW 'short squeeze' distorted the stock market | The University of Kansas (ku.edu)

Yet they think these sh*tty companies they pick up are all going to do the same thing. It's sheer madness.

I bought some AMC back in early 2021 as a YOLO and I'm really glad I sold it a year ago at $39 a share.

Unfortunately, I used it to pay too much for Rivian stock, but that's kind of a long term play.

The last time I paid to see a movie in a theater was in 2009.  I work in that industry so I've gone to some free industry screenings since then, but I know my days of ever grabbing a popcorn and sitting through ads and previews are long over.  The only thing I will miss is some of the cool old theater architecture from their golden age.
