I've been a fan of UW football since '85, and this was fantastic...College Game Day came to Seattle, and since Kiffin had recently been canned from USC, you can hear the students chant "You got fired!"

He was worshipped in Tampa for winning a Super Bowl and USF is desperate for anyone to breathe signs of life into their football program. So on that level it makes sense. That said, no way in hell he's even considered for the job.

I can't think of a living former NFL coach worse equipped to be a college coach.  He hated rookies, loved to overcomplicate stuff just to make himself look good, and comes in with a serious credibility problem.

But he worked at a hooters in Tampa IIRC, so "he has strong ties to the region".
