Musk is never going to die poor, but I would at least like to see him humbled. Sucks for the employees he sacked or those going down with the ship, though.

The egos in the corporate world are a phenom to behold. We've seen this play out time after time, company after company. Somebody buys a successful enterprise and changes the very things that make it great, all while thinking they could do better.

He should really leave business to someone who knows what they're doing.  Vincent Adultmán could really do wonders for that company

Media buyers did ask those questions. Twitter had zero answers or assurances, the presentation imploded and ended shockingly early.

This is what happens when corporations start asking questions and doing things intelligently (like smaller companies have to do), instead of just throwing millions of dollars around.

A similar thread on that platform outlined how Twitter will lose about $1 billion/yr unless 10 million accounts are willing to pay $20/mo for the  green prayer hankie account.   My question is simply, is it worth the US government to continue spend $12 billion/yr on his NASA/military contracts, or would it be prudent to dump him and let some other government prop him up?   Sometimes it's best to let a pariah earn his living from pariah states.

Anyone have any ideas?

Every single attempt at creating a right-wing friendly social media network fails to lift off, because it turns out most people don't like hanging out with Nazi's so they are unable to establish the critical mass necessary to sustain the network.
The only chance they have to create a Nazi-friendly friendly platform is to buy out a huge existing network and hope not too many of the normal people leave when the Nazi's come flooding in.  It's too bad for Musk that he got rich by being incredibly lucky, and not by having any common sense.

Musk has no greater nemesis than Musk himself running his mouth.

Because he was farking stoned off his ass and thought it would be cool and he could make it the ultimate free speech yet with zero bad content social network because he is SUPAR GEENYUS.  And it really would be cool, right?  Problem is he's effing stupid as he proves over and over, and he has no idea how to make that actually happen.  Being smart is not at all required for being rich, just look at Trump.

Yep. And our culture seems to make big personalities into leaders, even if those big personalities are awful people with no leadership skills.

I rather see more businesses be co-owned by the employees and the CEOs work for the employees as well as the share holders.

No revenue booked in for next year means the platform is borked.

Minimal ad revenue up against $1 billion in annual debt payments that Twitter didn't have prior to the Elon takeover. That Twitter blue membership revenue's just a drop in the bucket.

Looks like one of his PayPal mafia bros came up with some of these bad ideas, such as firing half the employees.

Those fines would likely be on twatter's dime, and not come out of musks's personal bank account. Even if Twitter completely evaporates, he still has an obscene amount of wealth to his name

The value of the company isn't in the servers or the software.  The value is in the many millions of users.  Anyone can start a new social media company, but they all have to start out with zero users.

And FWIW:Even google couldn't make it work with google+, and they owned the biggest search engine, the dominant video sharing platform, and the largest free email provider on the planet. they had front row seats and direct access to billions more eyeballs than to Musk would have had if he tried to create something from scratch.

If even google couldn't do it, then Musk would have failed before he even started. For a social media platform to thrive, it's not enough to convince your racist uncle and his klan buddies to join -- you also need grandma, your cousins, your former classmates, your neighbors and your boss. you need critical mass, or it will just be an echo chamber inhabited by a fringe of loonies that will fizzle out into irrelevance before you know it.

Pretty much, except for the chopping bath. Musk is wealthy enough.

Just losing money and looking like a fool is pain enough, and everyone pointing and laughing.

Yes, but every penny paid out in fines is now unavailable for debt service, and every penny of uncovered debt has to come from somewhere, and basically the only option is Musk and his liquidity partners.

I mean at this point it's anyone's guess.

Given his recent support of Russia, you could even theorize that he's compromised and acting as an agent of a foreign country to take control of social media and disrupt the election.

However, I really think it comes down to the fact that he's an idiot, he couldn't control himself, and he got into a legal bind he couldn't get out of and it cost him a ton of money.  Now he's scrambling to get it all back because he's put his other companies in jeopardy too.

It's been unreal watching Elon and Kanye self-destruct.  I just think there's going to be a lot of fallout and collateral damage before all this is said and done.

I'm pretty sure it's nothing but this. He's a dilettante with the attention span of a gnat; he likes being the center of attention, and he loves playing with things that get him clicks and eyeballs. He's got half a dozen projects, any one of which ought to keep a sane person busy for ten lifetimes each: SpaceX, Tesla, and getting to Mars are all lifetime projects that would keep normal wealthy people interested and occupied trying to get them going and keep them happening.

Musk is a narcissist with ADD and obscene amounts of money, so he just flits from project to project; lucky for him there's enough cash flow to attract good people to good ideas and keep them running. Because SpaceX and Tesla are GOOD things, and they really need a better guy in charge instead of Douchebag Afrikaaner there. Take him and launch him into the sun, and all his holdings would be better off.

I guess if they're a phenom we can expect that they'll be humbled, do something good with phenom ii, then will think they've done their job and give an even larger display of a shiatshow with bulldozer after that.

I look forward to Elon's bulldozer.
