Yes, that's it, Pooty.  Kill your own cannon fodder now that you've churned through your actual, trained soldiers and lost a huge chunk of your weapons, vehicles, and armor to your opponents.  Surely that will turn the tide!  Maybe draft a few Babushka Battalions to the front lines to throw pots and pans at the Ukrainians, too!

I mean, Krokodil addicts already have holes in them, so they'd be indistinguishable alive or dead.  On the other hand they'd have difficulty lobbing small pebbles at the enemy, so at best they'd be semi-useful as meat shields.

I, for one, welcome our new zombie-meat-shield overlords. ;P

So going as planned.

2022-11-04 11:09:52 AM
Yes, but who is going to keep these "blocking brigades" from deserting?  Better station troops behind them to be sure.

2022-11-04 11:10:44 AM
In case anyone was still unclear, this is what people who are losing a war do to their own troops.
This tells me that the Russians are not only losing the war against Ukraine, but that morale is bad and that mutiny is a very real possibility now.

Ah yes, sending troops to keep an eye on the troops and shoot deserters. That's how you know you're winning...

And the GOP love this guy...

Blocking units did very little to prevent desertion in the Red Army during WWII.  At best, they rounded up malingerers and chancers.  Presently, I would bet that assignment to a Blocking unit in Ukraine will be lucrative:  "50 euro and we turn the other cheek."

Considering those forcibly conscripted "Russian troops" were Ukrainian civilians a few short months ago, "I am disappoint" that they didn't run over the commander with a tank.....

I prefer plenary execution.

Can't run over the commander if he already deserted in the only functional tank.

I wonder how long before he decrees decimation orders for deserting units. That's going to cause an absolute shiat show, it's way easier for soldiers to kill their officers nowadays than it was in the roman legion.

If you are going to run, run West. You have to dodge people willing to kill you either way, but if you go West you could wind up living in Europe. I find it hard to believe that you could go home an nobody would notice.

Somethings happened to Battalion 2... he says they're dead... all dead...

2022-11-04 11:25:27 AM
The Ukrainian army is being supplied with winter gear - hats, coats, boots and is getting fed.

I think that says it all.

2022-11-04 11:26:10 AM
Sooner or later the deserters will realize THEY have guns too, and if it's shoot or be shot...well...

2022-11-04 11:27:25 AM
Once the cold really sets in during the winter there's gonna be a lot of dead Lieutenants and Captains in the Russian forces as large numbers of people start to defect just so they can get warm.

2022-11-04 11:29:31 AM
Watching how the incompetent leadership in Russia has managed to completely cockblock themselves into a humiliating defeat gives me renewed optomism in the eventual defeat of their cheerleaders here in America- The Republican party.
Maybe they'll be so completely decimated in their upcoming failure of a "Civil War", we'll end up eliminating the GOP entirely. Conservatism and Fascism and Nazi-ism needs to die.  It certainly is in Russian-held areas of Ukraine.

Someone needs to tell Russia not to invade "Russia" in the winter....

Watching Russia fight a war is like Russia trying to win the special Olympics and losing badly.

Executing potential deserters?  Is Putin borrowing Project Insight from Hydra?

2022-11-04 11:35:38 AM
Keep at it Putin, I'm sure destroying everything and everyone in Russia will allow you to finally win this war and acquire that Afghanistan occupation you so desire.

This is news? Putin's been doing this since February I thought.

Also, I asked this before but I'll ask it again because it's fun to think about: What happens when blocking units get encircled?

Ukraine should turn them over to the conscripts.

There is a meme comparing marrying a young hot Russian girl to a Babushka.  The checklist includes "Knows how to operate an AK-47".  Babushkas are not to be farked with.

But who's keeping an eye on those troops so they don't desert? Eh, they probably won't even show up.

Way to ensure that the Russian troops know to surrender to Ukrainian troops rather than fight.  Ukraine is already decimating phone numbers to Russian troops via different means and the biggest complaint from the Russians is that the lines are so busy it's hard to get through.

Russian soldiers options:

Fight the Ukrainians and possibly die or go through a winter with little to no winter equipment and food.

Try to run away and have blocking troops kill you.

Surrender to Ukraine, stay warm, not risk death by fighting or your own troops.

Hahaha, I saw this article this morning and just KNEW it would pop up here.

In its latest intelligence update, the Ministry of Defence in London said: "Due to low morale and reluctance to fight, Russian forces have probably started deploying 'barrier troops' or 'blocking units'.

"These units threaten to shoot their own retreating soldiers in order to compel offensives and have been used in previous conflicts by Russian forces."

The briefing added: "Recently, Russian generals likely wanted their commanders to use weapons against deserters, including possibly authorising shooting to kill such defaulters after a warning had been given. "Generals also likely wanted to maintain defensive positions to the death."

That's some good solid reporting there, Len.  The British Ministry of Defense thinks it's, like, totally possible and probably likely.  Seymour Hersh-like reporting, amirite?  4 qualifying words in 4 sentences.  Probably.

The important thing is that the Fark headline is 100% sure of it and makes a declarative statement.  10% of people actually RTFA so mission accomplished I suppose.

Ahh, Fark.  Gotta love it.

Blathering Idjut: Yes, but who is going to keep these "blocking brigades" from deserting?  Better station troops behind them to be sure.

Wasn't there a story a week ago about Russia's battle layout being:

Put up a first line of soldiers.

Put up a second line to shoot any deserters.

Put up a third line to shoot any second line deserters.

Not that it sounds like they have the staff, weapons, or ammo to give this arrangement any meaning. I think Ukraine would attack and report "We attacked their front line and they didn't shoot back, we later found they had no guns. We attacked their second line and they didn't shoot back, but they did have guns. Then we attacked the third line, and that line fired back at us."

Not any more. Russia blew up the means of staying warm everywhere they could reach.

This is what pooty poot shoulda done the whole time.  Skipped the Ukraine invasion and just move directly to kill Russians.

This is what should be happening.  Russians should be killing Russians.  They are going to die anyways, make them get their own hands dirty.

Any intelligent commentary includes suitable caveat.

You don't want to be the kind of pig shiat ignorant waste of carbon who declares certainties, like Ukraine will sue for peace by the end of the March and then gets laughed at, forever.
