An Aussie news site is getting uppity about a UK politician's footwear. I'd ask if that's even in their lane but then I remember that it used to be a penal colony for England.

As much as it's a bad look, I think that the shiatbox decision to reinstate Braverman is more damning than what kind of hoity-toity toe-helmets this languid loser is sporting. Personally, I'm just WAITING for him to push cryptocurrency as a solution to all of their current, monetary woes. That's going to be so gods-be-damned entertaining.

UK Tories should change their motto to, "All the power, none of the governance." Or maybe, "Know your place, chattel."

Not only is he rich, he married money.  His wife is a billionaire princess.  They never have to worry about money.  Him spending £790 on Prada shoes is couch change.  The optics are horrible because people are starving in Britain, but it's within his means.

I have a very similar pair that i bought almost 20 years ago when i was making good money. i gave them a break like 10 years back but have been wearing them alot recently. nicely broken in and comfy and pretty much work with everything. I'll probably get another couple years out of them depending on how much i wear them. they were in the $250-$300 range when i bought them. People spend way more on nikes that never get unwrapped

I was curious, so I checked--dress shoes are between upper $800s and $1200 on their website, so $900 seems a bit on the low end, perhaps, but not outside the range.

Rich people like that don't have "means." That word is meaningless applied to them.

Hint: He dressed like a pauper while the guy the U.S. backed dressed like a Coddled Frump, imprisoned and murdered his political enemies, didn't do shiat to help the rural population, and was an out of touch asshole that the country's Buddhists hated, partly due to his personal Catholicism that seemed to ignore most of Christ's teachings.

More US/UK translations:

In the US we get our hay in bales, and
get our bulk Costco merchandise in pallets.

Hope this helps while you're burning your shoes to keep warm this winter when the power goes out!

Right? By the time reached his feet from Prada, there could have been 6-7 people who touched them. Basically used shoes. High mileage.

You know, despite in my time loading a pallet or two of Costco milk onto a truck for a local food bank I worked at, I seem to have forgotten this.

The current conservative, "fook you, mate. I can afford $900 shoes.  I think it's dumb, so I don't, but I can.

If I were the PM, or any kind of authority dealing with crises regarding starving people, desperate people, there is no way on god's green mistake that I'd wear such shoes in public if I owned them.

flappy_penguin: $900 seems kinda cheap for pradas.

They're 450 pounds, and the article claims that makes them worth $860.  But the exchange rate is just $1.14 to the pound, so they're only $512.10

Apparently, 9News is as good at maths and fact-checking as FoxNews in the USA.

Very few of the Tories are qualified to make decisions with the welfare of the poor hanging in the balance because most of them are all for a libertarian government.  They won't elect a more progressive MP as PM because it would undermine their goals as rich prats to let the free market decide everything along racist guidelines.  Because of how moneyed he is, Sunak is by far one of the least qualified.

I missed the bit about it being Australian Dollars, but even so there are $1.76 Aussie dollars to the pound.

That makes the 450 pound shoes worth AU$790.63
