"Especially in these times, we all have to learn to muzzle our ears because there is so much ying-yang goin' on," said Larry Ward, 49, a roofer who also joined the Bible discussion. He was tuning out the "negative," he said, and basing his vote on the "non-negotiables." Asked what those were, he began by saying, "Are we looking for handouts or a work ethic?"

Normally, for redemption, don't you normally have to A) acknowledge what you did, B) Acknowledge what you did was wrong and C) Show remorse to/ask for forgiveness from those who yo have wronged?

FTA: Amid scandals, Herschel Walker hopes voters 'believe in redemption'

I'm no grammarologist but I do believe redemption is something that happens after you stop lying and being a hubris filled piece of human trash.

Hello IRS, yes, I want you to investigate all these churches non-profit status. Like now.

Imagine if Dr. Fauci said the CDC made errors early in the pandemic which caused people to die and asked for forgiveness.

"If you waited for the perfect candidate, you would never vote again," But there is literally someone running against him who is in every way shape and form a better candidate and is an actual Reverend, so if you want to use religion as a reason to vote, why the F wouldn't you be voting for the guy who is a Reverend?????

I believe in redemption.  I took back my cans to the recycling center and they gave me 5 cents for each one. Then I bought more beer with the proceeds.

This is the only redemption I believe in though, so have fun in hell, walker!

These knobs talked themselves into seeing Trump as a redeemed sinner. You really think Walker is a bridge too far for this crowd?

Because you know, if there's a true mark of seeking forgiveness, it's denying everything you're guilty of.

2022-11-03 3:56:46 PM
Republican candidates get infinite chances for "redemption," whereas whenever these so-called Christians hear about the time that a Democrat candidate littered on the sidewalk several years back they're all "HE'S AN UNFIT DISGRACE!!"

It's like a bad comedy skit come to life.

Redemption? I remember that. It was  Magic: The Gathering CCG knock-off that evangelicals told their kids was OK to play. But M:TG would send them to hell.

Redemption takes place at church or in the heart -- not the US Senate.

covalesj: Normally, for redemption, don't you normally have to A) acknowledge what you did, B) Acknowledge what you did was wrong and C) Show remorse to/ask for forgiveness from those who yo have wronged?

It's necessary, but all too often it's done in a facile, pro forma fashion -- "I said the magic words so I say we all good, and you have to forgive me now".

And according to today's evangelicals, that's sufficient. One of dozens of reasons why they suck.

"We all have done wrong," Barraza, 64, said when asked about some of Walker's false statements, including that he was his high school's valedictorian. "Who are we to judge?"
"If you waited for the perfect candidate, you would never vote again," agreed Leah Houz, 29, who hosted the Bible study in her home in this small, mostly White suburb of Savannah, the majority-Black city where Warnock grew up.

He held a gun to his ex-wife's head and they shrugs and say, "eh, nobody's perfect.". What the everloving FARK is wrong with these people?

Garrison said that God sometimes uses flawed people to do good things and that Walker could help Republicans regain control of the Senate

And predictably, there's a pastor trotting out the "God can use an imperfect vessel" excuse that evangelical voters use to justify voting for any and every incompetent, morally bankrupt, serially lying piece of shiat with an R after their name. See: Trump.

Fark these hypocritical assholes. These people are the farking worst.

And you know, actually try to stop doing it. Walker is still a serial liar. Now. It's not in the past. These people don't give a shiat though. He's got an R after his name. They will tie themselves in knots to justify voting for the R while piously going on about the importance of Godly, upstanding citizens. They are so, so full of shiat.

Pooler, GA is the worst city in the country that I've ever been.  And I've worked in East St Louis. It's every single awful thing about a suburb, but more if it than usual and compacted into a smaller space than usual. It makes me angry just thinking about it. So of course Walker found his safe space there.

IMO, believing in God isn't the problem. It's believing in God's infallibility. It let's them believe and do the most awful things and excuse them away because if it's part of God's plan, then that makes it just.

No, it makes God an asshole. And you a stupid asshole for worshipping him.

Forgiveness is a decision.  Atonement requires effort.  Usually sustained effort over a long term, for the sort of wrongdoing this fool has engaged in.

Redemption is what happens after you've completed all that Atonement.  But I guess he'd know that if he apparently had more than a 3rd-grade vocabulary.  Maybe 2nd grade.  Does he even have a fresh GED a la Boebert?

They may believe in redemption, but you haven't earned it. The first step towards redemption is to stop sinning.  You're still lying about the sins we know about and haven't come clean about those we still suspect.  The second step is to repent your sins, which again, you are still trying to conceal rather than express remorse and ask forgiveness for.  The third step is to be penitent and pay for what you have done though thoughts and deeds. See steps one and two, and oh, ixnay onyay ethay ildchay support:  it doesn't count if it's court ordered.

/I just made that shiat up.

Well, no. Apparently, redemption has been redefined to mean gaining power for its own sake while lying about your prolific history of unprotected sex and abortions.

Because they're stupid. As I've said many times before, looking for a deep, complicated reason as to why idiots are idiots is a waste of time. They're stupid.

If you want to actually find out why this idiot said that stupid thing, if it really bothers you enough to try and find out, try and contact her, but you're probably not gonna get anything more enlightening than the stupid quote above.

There are people who don't want to think for themselves. They literally are too lazy and stupid to think, they want to be told what to think and believe. It's why a lot of religious people are religious.

As noted by Sallust: Few men desire liberty; most men wish only for a just master.

You didn't think your cunning plan all the way through. They all know John 3:16 and can rattle off the four biggies in their sleep.  They also know all the hits from the New Testament, so that's a wash, too. What you need to do is go Old Testament, but not Genesis, since there's a good chance they know all the hits from that as well. But probably not the band.

Redemption starts with admitting your wrong, owning the problem, and making amends to those effected.
Don't see that happening, he's sorry he got caught in his lies, that's all.
Who knows what he's really like, i feel kind of sorry for him actually, he's been lied to also about who he is, and what he can really do, but has succumb to lust, wrath, greed, pride and probably envy of Trump and has a bad case of intellectual sloth, i don't know him well enough to include gluttony, but what the hell, i'll throw that one in for good measure.

Those don't look good on the resume when passing through those pearly gates.

Everything went to shiat the moment the GOP worked out that there are a huge amount of really stupid people in the US and they turned their focus on them to give them reasons to vote GOP.  Sadly it seems to have worked :(

I feel bad for these stupid people being manipulated by evil pricks to vote against their own best interests - I am just not remotely sure how to stop it.  Stupid people are stupid and the 100s of super rich pastors are living proof.  Facts do not seem to get through to them and sadly their vote is equal to any other persons :(
