And his team lost 3 of those games.

Luka's back must be killing him from carrying this team.   Get this man some actual help, Mark.

Michael Jordan literally averaged 30 ppg his ENTIRE career (and that was dragged down by 'only' averaging 21ppg for his two wizards years).  He really never accomplished that?  He must've gotten absurdly close a bunch of times.

My favorite Wilt story is from way early on in Philly when he was getting fouled all the time, as usual, because no one could stop him otherwise.  He worked with a coach and tried shooting FTs underhand, as Rick Barry later mastered, and his FT% got up to a respectable .600 or so.   The team moved to San Francisco and he stopped because, in his own words, he didn't want to look silly.   Not taking a thing away from Wilt, but if he had continued improving at the FT line, he would have been the undisputed GOAT.

He could be in danger of turning into the next Russell Westbrook if he's not careful.

Jordan had 30 or more points on his first 6 games of the 1986-87 season. The article is about how many straight games of 30 or more were reached from the beginning of the season... not how many straight games 30 or more points at any given part of the season.

Not being racist here (at least I don't think I am), but why aren't there any white AMERICANS in the NBA?
They all seem to be Eastern European or Aussie

MJ probably scored 30 points 10 times in a row. This is the joint occurrence of 7 games + consecutive + beginning of the season + 30 points. What is the relevance of those 4 things together as a point of comparison? There is none.

I am so tired of these dumb stats. They're ubiquitous, but they're lazy. The story is the Luka is having a hot start (and that his team is only 4-3). Write about that - is he shooting 10 3-pointers per game, or scoring inefficiently, or somethign else? They throw in crap like "first in x years" or "the only one to do it is [top 10 all time player]" because, idk, people post it on fark. It's empty information.

He is on pace for the second-highest usage rate in history, which is not a good sign for the Mavs' chances in the playoffs.

Larry Bird: "The one thing that always bothered me when I played in the NBA was I really got irritated when they put a white guy on me. I still don't understand why. A white guy would come out (and) I would always ask him: 'What, do you have a problem with your coach? Did your coach do this to you?' And he'd go, 'No,' and I'd say, 'Come on, you got a white guy coming out here to guard me; you got no chance.' ... For some reason, that always bothered me when I was playing against a white guy. "As far as playing, I didn't care who guarded me -- red, yellow, black. I just didn't want a white guy guarding me. Because it's disrespect to my game."

I mostly play on majority-black courts and find it funny that I'm often matched up against the other white guy, regardless of how tall/short good/bad he is.  It's hilarious.

Yes, I know that.  I'm capable of reading a headline.  At no point in my comment did I even suggest that.  What I said was that he averaged 30 points per game for his entire career.  Which means he presumably hit 30 points in a game quite often.  Which means it just seemed odd to me that he never accomplished this.

And to reiterate AGAIN, presumably that means he came close a bunch of times (like 30+ 4, 5, or 6 of the games, but got like 25-29 the other game(s) to just miss)

/His 86-87 season he averaged 37 points per game, the highest of his career, so I guess it does make sense that he got the closest that year.

This is the story. Not about the MVP race (ffs) or Wilt Chamberlain. Not so "cool".

Next up, why is 33 year old Harden playing so damn many minutes / game?

My best friend admitted to me a story that he and I still laugh about it today. I had graduated from HS in 1987. That summer, I was playing in a junior college summer basketball league for a college that I had played for in a 1987 spring league game.... even though I was still finishing my senior year in HS. You didn't have to be enrolled in college to play in the spring league.

Anyway, we had open try-outs on one summer Sunday morning. The coach picked 10 guys to play for 15 minutes. There were about 30 total players. I was the only non-black guy on one team, while my best friend (a black guy), was on the other time. At that time, I didn't know him. It was his first try-out. Anyway, he admitted to me a couple of years later, that he picked me to guard on defense since I was the only non-black guy, and he thought I would be the easiest guy to defend. He told me that very early on the scrimmage, I hit a three right on his face, and that like 6 guys, and two coaches said "nice shot hugram".  He thought to himself, "shiat, he just hit a three on my face, and the whole gym knows who he is."

I remember the try-out scrimmage but I don't actually remember hitting the three that he remembers so well to this day. I'm glad that he admitted that story to me.

I think more importantly, not a single one of those 22 usage rate seasons from the link I posted resulted in an NBA championship.

Yeah, I might start watching the Sixers again on league pass.  They'd gotten as awful to watch as most of the other teams that Harden played for.
