You're still alive at the end of that show, yeah you need to be glad you had the watch

Rookie mistake. You gotta check the body for electronics and line the box like a Faraday cage during transport and burial. Dirt alone won't do it these days.  Cell coverage is everywhere and these devices get incredible reception.

"She was found with "duct tape still wrapped around her neck, lower face, and ankles" after managing to escape. "

Ummm... what? Was she buried under 3 inches of dirt or something? Or was she about to be buried?

I mean great she is alive, and that the gadget helped, but it feels like the "writer" wanted to add a bit more drama then necessary.

Maybe the Chinese laborers currently being held hostage at the factory that assembles these should try using one to call for help???

You should also be cutting off the hands to avoid fingerprint ID so if he were doing it right he would have found the watch and been able to attach it to a migrating bird to throw the cops off

Took place in Lacey, WA which is a suburb of Olympia (the capital) but article references Seattle. Weird. Kinda like Olympia.

TFA says nothing about her being buried alive. It says she was tied up but was able to escape.

TFA is shiat.

Here: https://www.king5.com/article/news/crime/lacey-woman-escaped-estranged-husband/281-954cdfbf-4a0a-4a0e-a344-b818920d7d18

She used the watch initially to send out an emergency notification after being tied up. But then she was driven into the woods and had dirt shoveled on her. Eventually she untied herself and got out of the shallow hole and walked to the nearest house.

The watch had a small role but she escaped on her own; it did not save her.

No, it did. The spirit of Steve Jobs himself descended upon her shallow grave and lifted her out.

Don't get distracted by the story, concentrate on the cool features of the Apple watch like the author did.

Keep your mouth shut or Apple watch will call the police and have you arrested.

thornhill: Your move, Samsung.

Wearing my samsung watch right now, i can take calls and view messages on it, someday ill learn how to place calls and send messages, and even call up my phone when i misplace it, dick tracy stuff indeed. Sometimes im on call 24/7 for vacation rentals plus im hard of hearing, the watch actually wakes me up out of a dead sleep where nothing else can. What i dont like is that it...nags me. "Time to get moving", "oh good youre moving again" "havent you been lollygagging enough?" And it nags me when im relaxing in the hot tub... i need to learn more about it but aside from nagging, it fulfills its role and its a useful tool. Which comes off when im not on call, my regular watch doesnt tattle on me...

The Vanishing? Nope. It's the first non-horror movie, like Friday the 13th, I saw that had a bad ending so tragic. The evil guy not only got away with his crime, he lived happily ever after.  The only bad movies to really stay with me awhile after seeing it are "The Vanishing", "Compliance", and "Smile".

Awhile back I passed out, hitting my head against my kitchen island. When I came to, my Apple Watch was thumping my wrist vigorously.

I took a look at it and it had a message that if I didn't respond to it in 30 seconds, it was going to call 911.  I cancelled the call, and soon regained my bearing.

I didn't know that an Apple Watch could do such a thing, so I Googled it to get more information. Sure enough, if you take a hard fall, it will call 911, and with a human voice (I'm guessing Siri), it will notify 911 that it is your Apple Watch and that you have taken a hard fall, and give your coordinates.

Ever since then, I wear my watch all the time, except to charge it.

TFA is nothing but an iFanboy fluffpiece that took a crime article which mentioned an Apple Watch and then removed the part where she saved herself and used that intentional lack of information to claim the watch saved her.

And Amazon, Facebook, Google, and pretty much every other company that wants you running their apps on your mobile spyware device.

I haven't read Nineteen Eighty Four in ages, but I don't think it's explained how Big Brother came to power and installed surveillance devices in everyone's houses. Turns out, people are glad to do it to themselves.
