You didn't think that they'd go four for four did you, Smitty? Just the last two are gonna be fine...well, that and the somewhat dismal environmental protections. Strong unions...maybe not so much.

Everyone prepare their anuses for when the GOP takes the House and possibly, god forbid, the Senate because that will usher in a period of at least two years we can call The Age of Grievances.

Expect:

1. Biden to be impeached daily for the high crime of presidentin' while a Democrat
2. Republicans to open their own 1/6 investigation that will blame the entire event on Pelosi, Democrats and the Capitol Police (and probably "Antifa")
3. So many Hunter Biden investigations you'd think he was hiatler...enough investigations that even Benghazi is going to be like dayum son
4. National abortion ban
5. Rollback of marriage equality

And that's just to start.

And this country is ready to vote this in willingly because it costs a lot to fill up their giant Chevy Tahoes.

Oh, the 1950's like their Tax policies?
Oh, the 1950's like when they grabbed Telephone companies and made them in the Utilities?
Oh, the 1950's, like when being an active threat to Democracy was seen as criminal?

Or do you really just want separate water fountains again?

Don't bother answering, we know.

Republicans of the present only want to portray history as they "remember" it.

"Black people were all to happy to give up their seat on the bus to a white person!"

"Christianity was the law of the land of the United States!"

"You don't need high wages nor affordable healthcare to afford a home on one income, women can stay home and cook and clean for their husbands without needing to be part of the workforce!"

Effective tax rates back then we're indeed higher than current rates, but it never approached 90%.

"They bridled just as much at what they viewed as confiscatory taxes. And they found - or created - enough loopholes that, according to the Congressional Research Service, the top 0.01% in the 1950s paid not 90% but closer to 45% of their income in taxes."

White men didn't have to compete against Black or Brown men and didn't have to compete against women

And if a White woman didn't want to marry(which was rare but it happened) she could work as a nurse or a teacher

They love the 50's because everyone back then had the same fetal alcohol syndrome and lead poisoning.  It was easy to get through college if you were white - you always got a free pass.  It was easy to get a job because your dad had that all set up for you.

Time clouded their own perception of all the 'hard work' they did.  If you look at it realistically - they did jack shiat - and the stuff they actually DID do was stupid as fark.

They are lots of conservative blue collar workers who think all a union ever did was make a Ford F-150 cost too much
I've lost count of times I've seen someone complain about how much an auto worker makes but  has no problem with the CEO's pay

They think without unions a truck would cost the same as 70 years ago. But somehow they will still be making today's wages because they work so much harder than everyone else, it would just be everyone else making 5 dollars an hour

At this point I think the US should just give the GOP a state. They can rule it however they wish, with no federal laws whatsoever. The only caveat is they must abandon all positions in the US government.

2022-11-01 11:53:58 AM
They don't want the 50's the way it was. They just want what they think it was.

Both racism and misogyny were more entrenched, but less overt--men who acted the way these cretins do to women would be asking for and getting a beating in most parts of the country. Negroes who swallowed their pride and toed the line were able to make a reasonable living anywhere but the Deep South, which is why open racism became a thing in the first place, as more and more blacks started to Stepin Fetchit their way out of poverty and into the middle class, especially with the training and pride they brought home from WWII

They don't want the 1950's. They want the 1850's and they need to be forcibly reminded of it and made to answer for it. They don't want Plessy, they want Dred Scott.

Fun fact: the minimum wage was created for the explicitly stated purpose of preventing black men from competing for jobs.

Certainly an interesting way that ProPublica figured their "tax" rate.

"Significantly, however, ProPublica's report does not suggest those billionaires broke the law and calculates the "true tax" not on income, but on wealth, which for the very rich is a much bigger number, since unrealized gains aren't taxed."

It looks like started with the result they wanted and out together numbers to get there. But an eye opener nonetheless
