Inability to form governments, a hallmark of the sort of countries Britain created and detroyed in the post-colonial era. Funny how it's all come back home... but there's been work done showing how literal and political violence gets imported from the periphery back home.

Is this how British Prime Minister changeovers usually go? Because they haven't caught my attention in the past so I wouldn't really know, but this immediate jump to "we hate the new guy already and he's got to go" within the span of a week or two seems more than a little odd to me.

No, this is not how it usually goes.  The party in power elects someone everybody likes, and they are PM for at least 3 years before people get fed up with it.  The last 6 months have just been unbelievable.  I'm about ready to invest in popcorn futures.  At this point, if the Tories oust Sunak as PM, King Charles would be wise to just dissolve Parliament and call an election now.  Clearly, the Tories aren't going to call an election because they are so far down in the poles, but having to elect a 3rd PM in 6 months shows a drastic inability to govern as a party.

This is why there needs to be an election. Not because this guy wasn't elected by the people, but because it is clear that the current Commons cannot effectively govern.

Well...since the star player in UKIP is the cockwomble responsible for Brexit (Nigel Farrage), I can see how that would certainly make sense.  At the time, he was in the Tories.  He changed parties after May could not get the job done.  I think UKIP is just about trimming some government fat rather than throwing it out entirely in favor of libertarianism.

The other 2 that might have had a better shot dropped out of the race when it was apparent they did not have enough support for a vote.  The reason for that was because the necessary number of PM support needed was inexplicably changed from the usual 15-20 PMs to 100.

There's an utter breakdown among the Tories, as with the Republicans. There is no longer any ability to broadly govern, and this has spiraled into inner wreckage wtihin the parties. There are no ideas, no solutions, just an idiotic scrum of awful, meager personalities.

This is happening - on both sides of the Atlantic, because of:

1. Decaying electoral systems (Weeners the post, the electoral college) that keeps putting right-wing governments into place that do not need to answer to anything;

2. Media landscapes controlled by the extraordinarily wealthy or corporations wilfully detached from ordinary life. When these media organs are not directly controlled, the wealthy are punching through propaganda serving their own interests; and,

3. A right-wing populace, usually white, that was stunned by globalization into delusion, fantasy, and hatred, whether it would advance their own positions or not.
