It's been reported before, and Yoland King spoke about attending the Roberts' drama school since forever.

I'm not sure why people are just "discovering" this (well, probably because Roberts has never really bragged about her parents being friends with the Kings).

Fair enough, I went and looked at the article here, too, so it seems pretty clear that it was a real thing. Just so weird to hear about this 40 years into her career.

Further proof Dr. King was a republican. Folks like Joel Osteen and Kenneth Copeland are just continuing this trend of compassionate conservatism. Inspired by the likes of Joe Paterno and Dennis Hastert, no one cares more about today's youth like Matt Gaetz and JD Vance. Thankfully we have folks like Marjorie Taylor Greene to toe the party line and Lauren Boebert to care for all God's creatures.

This is much more believable than the stories from my  high school econ/government teacher. Mr. Lynd told us the following:
-his grandfather wrote KlanKraft
- MLK Jr. taught him to play Teeball
- Bill Clinton had the secret service shut down the mall so he could buy some socks from the store he worked at
- he graded our papers every night

None of it was true.

Fark has gotten so confusing lately.

I just go "what?" almost every story.

It's stuff from 30-40 years ago that I wasn't around to know or, it is just some hyper-accelerated twitter,facebook BS that I don't have time to follow.

Politics section is full of people I don't who they are. All the other categories might as well be politics.

Except that some of these people don't over-share. I mean, this is still a cool story, but I can kind of imagine her being the kind of person who doesn't really feel the need to constantly remind you how cool their life is. Funny thing is, this is one that would have been great to share.

Well, this makes me warm to her a bit.  I wasn't really a fan of her "America's sweetheart" run films, Pretty Woman, etc... but did like her in Erin Brockovich, and anything else she did with Soderbergh, and Homecoming.

There ya go, answered your own question. Really, it's one that should get mentioned, it's cool. But it also sounds like status quo name dropping, and she definitely doesn't seem the type.

Find your people. I have been on Fark for 15 years and still haven't "gotten to know" a lot of people but I do have a small circle of Fark friends. I started out only participating in Caturday. Nowadays I can be found in gardening threads as well as cooking and baking ones. I am all over the place defending my home state of Wisconsin while bemoaning what it has become in the last 25 or so years. I found my people (and lost some good ones, RIP) so I can go with the flow as Fark changes.

As for the story about Roberts, she doesn't strike me as the kind of person who name drops to look cool so I am not surprised this flew under the radar.
