This isn't about 'inflation', it's about monopolistic corporations hiking prices to maximize profit.
/If inflation were at work, the raw materials going into the food would have increased, which would have offset the price hike. For profit to go up so dramatically, the cost of their goods are relatively flat, they're just charging more for it.

How in the dark can people eat this garbage?

How fked up do your taste buds have to be to taste McD's and think, "Yeah, this is it. This is the flavor worth waiting 20 minutes ina drive thru for"

I went through this attitude from about 20 to 40.  Now I recognize that hot fat, salt, and sugar press all the primal taste centers in the human brain.  Similarly, I wouldn't deign to eat any kind of "unauthentic" Mexican food.  Now I recognize why Chipotle exists and don't mind it.

It's unhealthy and pedestrian, but there's nothing unevolved about it.  Make sure you're not criticizing it just because it's for poor people.

If you read through their results, their profits are actually lower than a year ago

https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/27/mcdonalds-mcd-earnings-q3-2022.html

The company reported third-quarter net income of $1.98 billion, or $2.68 per share, down from $2.15 billion, or $2.86 per share, a year earlier.

It's for convenience more than for poor people (who, to be fair, might just grab it because it's a bunch of quick calories while going between poorly-paying jobs).  The price of two value meals at McD's could buy a lot more groceries and be several meals.

The golden arches have become expensive enough that I'd rather just hit up Five Guys, Freddy's, or some other semi-fast place that tastes much better than the salt/fat bomb McDonald's offers.

I was at a Five Guys about a year ago, and the cost for cheeseburger, fries and coke was over $20.  The burger was definitely better, but I don't like their fries.  They give you a ton, but I just don't care for their style.

I think the OP has a valid argument though. You look at urban food deserts, and it's not that there's a lack of food options available-- it's the lack of GOOD food options. It doesn't cost more than your average hamburger to provide people with healthy whole grains, fruits and veggies, but we've designed a system that benefits food that's quick to manufacture on a mass scale and can be eaten while you're walking down the street. It's the reason why you'll find a fast food joint in nearly every neighborhood, but will be hard pressed to find a decent grocery store in many urban, minority-majority areas.

Heaven forbid people take 10 minutes to sit down, eat a salad, enjoy what they're eating, and let it digest for a couple of moments.

Holy shiat.  Maybe it varies by market?  I've never seen any single fast food meal be that much.

My wife and I are super cheap, so when we're traveling and actually get fast food we tend to just get a burger each, split fries, and water/seltzer that we already had.  More likely we'll hit up a grocery store and stock up, or bring a bunch of stuff with us if we're not flying.

I had never seen it before either and was shocked.  I just looked at their online menu, Cheeseburger $11, fries just under $6 and the drink was $3.   I should have just skipped the fries and had a water like I normally do, but I was on the road, couldn't find another place that wasn't just drive through (was near the end of the worst of COVID)  so I may have over did it.

Yes it is. Back in the 70's when PYRAMID Power was a thing. And it would PRESERVE EGG, in a replicate paper pyramid. I did a science fair project and made a few and a control 'eggs' (all cracked in identical paper trays)
Then put them in low humidity environment. (okay, the heat pump vent) and some in pyramids. NO DIFFRENCE.

Go make some 'organic' home fries/salt them and throw them under your driver's seat through the winter and see if they don't dry out.

Their burger is better than the other fast food places, but I always remember it as better than it actually is. Their cajun fries though scratch the Bojangles itch since there aren't any up this way. it is absurdly expensive for what it is, though most conventional fast food has gotten into that range. I'd rather drop $15-18 on some thai food
