The real problem with the middle seat is that the bastard in the aisle seat thinks he gets two armrests.

If you read the fine print that's printed on a pamphlet available at the ticketing agent support office, you'll note that the winning price will be paid out in travel vouchers and must all be used within 6 months of receipt or they will all be forfeit.

I wife sat in the middle seat, both ways with myself on the aisle seat to & our adult son in the window seat.  On flights to and from FL to PA.  BTW we didn't get paid and extra money to do so & boy do we feel ripped off.

If you made that kind of cash every day wouldn't you, if you had to go to Dubai for some reason? To some people flying at all is an unimaginable luxury.

Hmm ... let me think. If I book a middle seat for my emotional support animal, do I get the credit? He can easily fit there comfortably, but the rattlesnake doesn't like seatbelts. I know! I'll ask some parent to temporarily adopt their small child who can hold on to the rattlesnake!

You get two elbows poking in your ribs.  And the window seat person spills their soda on you and then grumbles about getting less than a tiny cupful of soda.

The middle seat isn't actually required. People just don't want to pay the costs of deleting them.

Stop being unconscionably cheap, farkos!

That exact image is often posted in airline seat threads, but I find it hard to believe it's real.

The design of the seats indicate that it's an old photo, yet I don't believe that even a Ryanair or similar budget airline would permit that prior to takeoff. Could it be from an old comedy video or corporate training video or something?

Spirit already does something similar to this some times. When they're talking about their credit card, they'll talk about the middle seat, then have passengers check somewhere and someone "wins" some of their FF points.

Marcus Aurelius: The real problem with the middle seat is that the bastard in the aisle seat thinks he gets two armrests.

The real real problem is that each seat doesn't have its own armrests.  If Boeing ever built a new from-scratch replacement for the 737 with a few extra inches in fuselage radius that could accommodate wider seats (but not so much that airlines could slip in an extra seat), it would likely be an immediate hit.

Yes, I was engaging in hyperbole.

I was looking at prices to Belgium before WWIII started, and I saw some round-trip first-class tickets (I was curious, okay?) for upwards of 10K. No idea what they're going for now, because it would just depress me to go look. Not entering Europe for fun when NATO could get involved at any moment.

About half your odds of winning this.

That and the fact that many airlines decided in the last three decades that they wanted more rows in their planes and went from a standard seat pitch of 34"-36" to 30".

I often pick the middle seat during seat selection because I can get into a row much closer to the front. I'd rather be slightly less comfortable and get to exit the plane 15 minutes earlier than having a window or aisle in row 34. After we've landed and taxied, I just want to get the hell off.

On Southwest, I've sometimes been B50+ or C category and snagged a seat in the first 5 rows because it's a middle seat. Love that move. Helps to be slim.

That's why they have First Class and Economy Plus options on most airlines. You want a bigger seat, pay more for it.

We just returned from Florida. Every flight we took, going and coming, our son got a middle seat. On one, we got seats in an exit row. Exits on either side of the plane front, middle, and rear. Two seats on the right, opposite us, were reserved for extra large people. Before take-off an attendant has to ask everyone seated on the row if they're ready, willing, and able to assist in evacuating the plane before it sinks, and everyone but the two people in the extra-sized seats readily agreed. The attendant had to raise her voice to get a spoken assent from them, and one guy seemed sullen about it. Then, she sat down in one of those rear facing seats for take-off. As the engines were revving she spoke out quite loudly, "Sir, please don't lean against the door." It was the longest hour and a half flight of my life.

When I die, I know I'm going to Hell.

And the trip will be on and airplane with nothing but middle seats.

Because we are going to Hell.

So when people who post stuff that they know that they're going to Hell for it (ie: In the ashtray!), and ask for a window or aisle seat, they are just dreaming.

Just like we will all be dreaming about Satan's spit...

No aisles is next. You gotta crawl over seats to get back to row 79. Piss/shiat on the floor I guess.

The square-ish windows hint that the photo is a De Havilland.  Those didn't have a good flight record.
I wonder how that weight distribution would work out on takeoff and landing.  Not that it would matter much on that crash-queen.

Mercifully, no. There's quite a few engineers and Fire Responders who have enough of Congress' and C Suite ears to remind them that dead people is a very quick way to unelectablility and striped jumpsuits. Also lawsuits that literally no judge won't hear.

Adjusted for inflation, a ticket on that baby was as much as a business class seat today. Which on most airlines doesn't come with a middle seat at all.
